Abstract: This study presents optimal conditions for
preparation of durian peel based activated carbon (DPAC) for removal of
ammoniacal nitrogen (NH3-N) from semi-aerobic landfill leachate.
DPAC was prepared using chemical activation method which consisted of
phosphoric acid (H3PO4) treatment and nitrogen
gasification. Optimum conditions for DPAC preparation (activation temperature,
400 °C; activation time, 2.27 h; and IR, 3) resulted in DPAC yield (21.02%) of
and NH3-N removal (46.49%).

Authors: Agarwal, Shyam; Kachhwaha, S S; Mishra, R S
Abstract: Among
many available retrofitting technologies to improve power generation capacity
and efficiency of simple cycle gas turbine, inlet air cooling (IAC) and steam
injection gas turbine (STIG) are considered most effective ways to modify an
existing simple cycle unit. In this study, a simple cycle generation unit is
considered as base unit and STIG and IAC features are sequentially retrofitted
to the system. Retrofitting of simple cycle combined with IAC and STIG has been
found to boost power output from 30 MW to 48.25 MW, while generation efficiency
can be increased from 29.9% to 33.4%. Exergy destruction rate per MW of power
output reduces for combustion chamber, compressor and HRSG, while increases for
gas turbine for retrofitted cycles.

Authors: Omizu, Yohei; Tsukamoto, Chigen; Chettri, Rajen; Tamang, Jyoti Prakash
Abstract: Saponin composition and contents in seeds of raw
dry soybean and fermented soybean foods of India (kinema, bekang and
tungrymbai) were investigated by liquid chromatography-tandem mass
spectrometry analysis. Saponin contents were found as follows: raw soybeans,
401.8±46.8 - 686.9±33.9; seed hypocotyls, 2118.5±160.7 - 9049.3±788.6; seed
cotyledon, 226.5±5.0 - 508.3±19.2; and fermented soybean foods, 243.4±25.8 -
590.3±29.0 mg/100g.Due to large amount of Group B saponin in ethnic fermented soybeans of India, it is presumed that soybean foods have health promoting benefits.

Abstract: This study presents synthesis of novel mono azo
acid (MAA) dyes by diazotization of
3-(4-aminophenyl)-2-phenylquinazolin-4(3H)-one followed by coupling with
naphthalene based acid components. All dyes gave moderate to very good fastness
properties on each fiber. MAA showed good antifungal activity against Candida
albicans.
