Authors: Sachan, Nikhil K; Arif, Muhammad; Zaman, M K; Kumar, Yatindra
Abstract: The anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities of ethyl acetate
(EAFSM) and n-butanol (NBFSM) fractions of alcoholic extract of <i>S. mangifera
</i>bark
were evaluated by using carrageenan induced rat paw edema and by tail-flick
method in rats. The radical scavenging activity of ethanolic extract, aqueous
extract and fractions was determined by using DPPH radical scavenging capacity
assay. Two fractions of the alcoholic extract, EAFSM and NBFSM at the dose of
75, 150 & 300 mg/kg b.w. orally after overnight fasting, showed significant
reduction in paw volume when compared with respective control group of
carrageenan challenge. Different doses of extract fractions also showed
significant prolongation of tail-flick latency of rat (P<0.01). Different
concentrations of alcoholic, aqueous extracts and fractions of alcoholic
extract showed significant free radical scavenging capacity against DPPH
generated free radicals.

Authors: Bohra, N K; Kumar, Pramod; Mishra, D K; Limba, N.K.; Mutha, Sarita
Abstract: A
study on the participation on the women in forestry and livestock activities in
the arid region of India was
undertaken with special reference to nine villages of Jaisalmer district in Western Rajasthan. Households were selected on random
sampling method. The survey was carried out with an objective to study women
participation in agricultural, forestry, livestock, economic activities and
household activities. Study reveals that women participation in livestock
activities is between 60 and 80% whereas, in household activities contribution
is almost 100 per cent. It was found that financial matters (i.e marketing and
procurement of seeds / animals etc) are solely managed by the male members of
the society. The research paper deals with the contribution of women in
agricultural, forestry and household activities.

Abstract: The effect of photoperiod on the passage of food through different
regions of gut in silkworm (<i>Bombyx mori </i>Linn.)
Bivoltine larvae has been studied in detail. Variation in the photoperiod
influences the rate of movement of food passing through the gut. Food passage
fasten during dark phase in comparison to the light condition in different
regions of the gut. Similarly the rate of egestion of excretory pellet is also
influenced by light in all larval stages (IIIrd, IVth &
Vth ).

Title: Role of brassinosteroids in crop productivity
Authors: Nagar, P K
Abstract: Brassinosteroids (BRs) are a new group of plant hormones which
play an important role in various phases of plant growth and development. This
group of compounds regulate various processes in plants like seed germination,
rhizogenesis, flower and fruit development, senescence and abscission. This
group of plant steroids includes about 70 compounds having structural similarities
with animals, insects and human steroid hormones. In recent years through the
use of molecular genetics and genetic studies its role has clearly been
established in plant growth and development. About 40 years back the first BR
was isolated from pollens of <i>Brassica rapa </i>and since then
several practical applications of BR in agriculture uses have been reported.
But due to high cost of production its commercial application was hampered.
However, in recent years, due to increasing availability of many of its
formulations in countries like Russia,
China, Cuba and India has opened a new door in its
agricultural applications. Besides, BRs also protect the plants from various
biotic and abiotic stresses. The present article discusses the importance of
BRs in enhancing crop productivity.
