Authors: Varshney, K G; Drabik, M; Agrawal, Arun
Abstract: Cellulose acetate based thorium(IV) phosphate
(CAThP) has been synthesized as a new phase of hybrid fibrous cation exchanger by
mixing thorium nit rate, phosphoric acid and cellulose

acetate in different proportions to obtain
a material of optimum ion exchange properties. It has been characterized by using
IR, TGA, XRD and SEM studies in addition to its ion exchange capacity, elution,
concentration and pH titration. Extensive thermogravimetric

studies have been performed to evaluate the
behaviour of the material and its tentative structure.

Abstract: Cobalt(II) complexes or chromen-2-one-3-carboxy
hydrazide and 2-(chromen-2'-onyl)-5-(aryl) 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives have
been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, magnetic suscecptibility, molar conductance, spectral studies [IR, UV-vis,and 1H

bidentate ligand in all the complexes. Di storted octahedral geometry for all the Co(II) complexes is proposed. X-ray structure determination have been made for the exact definition
of the coordination sphere. The newly synthesized Co(II) complexes have been screened
for their antimicrobial activity against some bacterial species like E. coli,S.

Authors: Yang, T L; Qin, W W
Abstract: A new Schiff base ligand with tripodal structure,
N,Nʹ,Nʹʹ-tri-(2,4-dihydroxyl-acetophenone)triaminotriethylamine (H6L),
and its complexes with europium (III) and terbium (III) have been synthesized.
The complexes have been characterized by element

analysis, IR spectra, mass spectra, thermal
analysis and molar conductivity. The europium (I II) and terbium (III) cations coordinate
with the Schiff base nitrogen atoms, the bridgehead

nitrogen atoms and phenolic hyd rox yl oxygen
atoms of the ligand. The luminescence properties of the complexes in DMSO, THF,
DMF, MeCN and CH3OH solvents have also been investigated. Under the excitation
of UV light, these complexes exhibit characteristic of europium (III) and terbium
(III). The solvent factors influencing the luminescence intensity are also discussed.
Tentative structures for the complexes have been proposed based on the experimental
results.

Abstract: Viscosity behaviour has been studied for poly(caprolacton-dimethyl
methacrylate) (PCL-DM), poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and the blends (50:50) of PCL-DM/PEG
in tetrahydrofuran (THF), N,N'-dimethyl formamide (DMF), and chloroform (CHCl3)
at 25°C. The blends have been characterized to evaluate their compatibility during
the viscosity measurements. The influence of solvent upon the viscosity of dilute
solutions of PCL-DM/

PEG blends has also been investigated .
