Authors: Trivedi, J. N.; Vachhrajani, K. D.
Abstract: Present study consists the color
polymorphism in brachyuran crab Etisus
laevimanus Randall, 1840, which is common species found on the rocky shores
of indo-pacific region. Total 83 specimens were collected from four different
rocky shore sites of Saurashtra coast. Seven different morphs including orange
morph, orange morph with brown dots on carapace, green morph, white morph with
brown markings on carapace, yellow morph with brown markings on carapace,
orange morph with white stripe on carapace and green morph with black spot on
carapace were identified. Yellow morph with brown markings on carapace was the
most common morph while green morph with black spot on carapace was rare morph
found in the study area. Morphs also show peculiar micro habitat preference.

Abstract: Present research was to evaluate and compare
the antiradical and antioxidant activities of extracts from
Spirulina platensis. In the present study, three extracts (Water,
absolute methanol and 50% methanol in water) were analyzed for the total phenolic
compounds, phycobiliprotein content: Antiradical and antioxidant activities
were evaluated using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH•) and
2,2-azinobis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) radical scavenging
methods at 100 and 200 µg/mL. Results revealed that, absolute methanol
extract recorded the highest number of antiradical units 1 mg extract followed
in descending order by that of water while the lowest number was that of
aqueous methanol (against DPPH and ABTS radical methods) and these correlated
with chemical constituents of extract from phenolic and phycobiliprotein
compounds. It is elucidated that selection of the cyanobacterium (Spirulina
platensis) very important for consumer’s health, as it is considered as
potential sources of dietary antioxidants.

Authors: Raj, Sumit; Inbakandan, D
Abstract: A molecular docking analysis was carried out
followed by Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulation studies on the secondary
metabolites from a marine sponge Discodermia
calyx in order to identify their bioactive targets acting towards cancer. Over
expression of Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) results in triple
negative breast cancer. Hence, a docking investigation was carried out in order
to predict the anticancer properties of secondary metabolites from a marine
sponge D. calyx targeting the EGFR.
The compounds were further subjected to MD simulation analysis. Docking
analysis reveals that the compounds debromohamacanthin B, tetrahydrofurospongin
and deoxytopsentin showed good interaction with the EGFR receptor forming
hydrogen bonds with the tyrosine and arginine residue preventing the binding of
EGF to the EGFR receptor by inhibiting dimerization with a score of 130.13,
139.369 and 114.416 respectively.

Abstract: Possible
roles of algae (i.e. “green water”) in facilitating<span style="mso-bidi-font-family:" times="" new="" roman";="" letter-spacing:-.1pt;background:white"="" lang="EN-GB"> Macrobrachium rosenbergii<span style="mso-bidi-font-family:" times="" new="" roman";="" letter-spacing:-.1pt;background:white"="" lang="EN-GB"> larviculture have been
investigated in the present study. Three types of algae were mixted with shrimp larval feed. Algal members
were belonging to the family like Cyanophyceae, Chlorophyceae and Charophyceae
respectively. Algal mixture was applied with control feed, showed better result
in shrimp larval development. It took only 15 days to attain post larval stage,
where as in conventional feeding practice it was 27 days. Algal mixture as
total feed showed more or less similar result (26 days) in comparison to
conventional feed. As in this formulation total animal protein was replaced, it
will be effective in controlling larval diseases.
