the study carried out by Martin and Gilchrist to evaluate the British&#xD;
scientific journals, based on the data extracted from a special print out of&#xD;
the Science Citation Index (SCI). It is argued that since the output in SCI&#xD;
reflects the input policy, and as the citations in SCI will be predominantly in&#xD;
the subject field or pertain to the geographical region from which the source&#xD;
periodicals were selected, an evaluation based on SCI is likely to be biased.&lt;/span&gt;

Abstract: &lt;span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:&#xD;
115%;font-family:" times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-font-family:"times="" roman";="" mso-ansi-language:en-us;mso-fareast-language:en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="" lang="EN-US"&gt;Using&#xD;
the criteria of facet analysis, facet formula and fundamental categories, a&#xD;
comparative and critical appraisal of the traditional general classification and&#xD;
newly emerging special classification schemes, with their roots in faceted&#xD;
classification, is conducted. The efficiency of the latter schemes from the&#xD;
viewpoint of their information retrieval capacity is also evaluated. Judging&#xD;
from the present state of development of general classification, it is concluded&#xD;
that the evaluation of a general universal classification scheme, using faceted&#xD;
structure as its base, is still a remote possibility.&lt;/span&gt;

paper gives the turnover and work flow of the Document Procurement Section of&#xD;
the Indian Institute of Technology Library, Delhi which deals with the&#xD;
procurement and supply of materials in the shape of microfilms, microfiches,&#xD;
photocopies , etc. It also brings out the difficulties faced in the Section in&#xD;
the procurement of such items and suggests some points for the overall&#xD;
Improvement of such services.&lt;/span&gt;
