process variables on the benzoylation of jute has been studied. It has been
observed that the extent of benzoylation of jute increases progressively with
increase in the concentration of benzoyl chloride, reaction temperature and
reaction period. It is also influenced by the reacting medium and pretreatment
of the material. Although initially the yarn samples behave differently in
comparison to the treated fibre, the differences are eliminated with longer
durations of reaction. A suitable method for benzoylation of jute, especially
in the fibrous form, is proposed.</span>
