derived from 5-aminoquinoline have been prepared and tried as disperse dyes for
nylon. Their dyeing properties have been compared with those of their analogues
derived from 6-aminoquinoline. The UV, visible and IR spectral data for the
various compounds are given. A correlation between light fastness and
absorption spectra is attempted, and it is shown that the π - π* electronic energy is an important parameter
determining the stability of the systems investigated.

determination of thermal insulation values (TIV) of fabrics made of jute and
its blends with other fibres is described. TIV has been found to be related to
the thickness of the fabric, the basis weight and the number of layers of the
fabric. The air spaces within the fabric and between the body and the fabric
are also important. Increase in any of these factors increases TIV. The nature
of the fibre has a marginal effect on TIV.

of polyamide fabrics by a print-fix process has been investigated. The
conditions of preparation and the use of suitable buffers for effecting storage
stability of a reactive compound CS have been standardized. After printing and
fixation under different conditions the printed portions were analyzed for
effective reductions in end amino groups. Steam fixation was found to give the
desired extent of blocking (50-60 %) in a short time without affecting the feel
of the fabric. The printed portions exhibit a higher dye uptake for cationic dyes
than the unprinted ground and reduced uptake for acid dyes, metal-complex dyes as
well as reactive. The printing, however, causes no change in the uptake of
dispersed yes. By a suitable combination of dyes dyeing conditions and
auxiliary addition, interesting reserve tone in tone, two colour as well as
three colour effects can be obtained.
