a long history of use as a natural treatment for fever, as well as traditional
herbal combinations that are pleasant to the taste and provide a number of
benefits when suffering from fever and chills. In holistic tradition, herbs are
not used to reduce fever unless there is also some positive benefit in treating
the infection or inflammation that is causing the fever. Many practitioners see
fever as the body’s natural response to a pathogen. Fever has been shown to
stimulate immune system production of antibodies and may also enhance the
body’s elimination of toxins. If a fever is suppressed, the individual loses
the advantages from the body’s natural defense system, and the illness may last
longer. Therefore, herbalists try to use herbs that support the immune system
and enhance other cleansing processes of the body. The present study had been
conducted in tarai region in the year 2008 to 2011 in three sites and eight
communities. Total 29 plant species were identified to cure fever. These plant
species were used in different type of fever as in typhoid, tertian and in
malarial fever. Datura alba, Allium cepa, Capscicum annum were reported
first time from the study area.

eradicate use of mercury from the world because of its harmful effect on ecosystem
that ultimately affect on human and wildlife, but there is problem of disposal
because of its liquid nature. For this purpose various processing technologies
were developed to convert it in to compound formulations which are stable at
normal temperature and pressures as well as non-toxic in nature. In this
sequence different technologies were developed by ancient and contemporary
researchers for physical and chemical stabilization of mercury. Physical
stabilization is done by amalgamation process that converts mercury in to solid
form and less toxic in comparison to liquid mercury. This physical
stabilization methodology is closely resembles Parad Bandh which is quoted in classical literature of Rasa Shastra. In chemical stabilization,
mercury is converted in to non toxic compound mainly by chemical reaction with
sulphur by Mayasa and DELA technology and resulting in formation of black and
red colour mercury sulphide. These technologies are quite comparable to
pharmaceutical technology of Parpati
and Kupi pakwa developed by ancient researchers of Ayurveda. And these preparations are indicated for the treatment of
gastrointestinal disorders and disorders starting from acute disorders to
chronic nature. In this way we can say that contemporary science can develop
stabilization technology of mercury only for mercury disposal while Ayurvedic researchers developed
expertise to convert these disposed mercury for the benefit of humanity since
12th century.

judiciously utilized for whatever purpose especially in agriculture sector. The
present study focuses on traditional community managed water conveyance,
management and conservation practices in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir
which has been followed by the farming communities through locally devised
traditionally inherited technology using local material with least use of
external inputs. These traditional irrigation channels are locally known as kools which contributes in water as well as
soil conservation with indigenously developed management practices. Famers in the region since time
immemorial have been using this kool system for irrigation and as result
of it;
they are not only producing major cereals but also off season vegetables which
is augmenting their productivity and income. The diversion of water through kools has also resulted in the decrease of
turbulent flow of water in perennial
nalla which results in the considerable reduction in the loss of top soil,
thus contributing significantly to the soil conservation.
