Authors: Jain, S. K.; Gupta, Reeta
Abstract: A miniature pinger device for use as an acoustic tag on medium size fish for studying its movement under water is discussed. The basic design considerations and construction details of a 75 kHz pinger tag are described. Acoustical performance characteristics and operational parameters of the tag are presented. Tag which weighs 12 g in water is estimated to be suitable for tagging on to 0.4 m or longer size fish. The tag has an acoustic source level sufficient for an estimated range of 400 m when tracked using a simple acoustic receiving system.

Abstract: Foreshore as well as backshore sediment samples were collected from four stations and subsequently analysed for their texture and mineral composition viz. percentage of silicate, magnetite and calcareous materials. The sediments of the beach are predominantly in medium class (75.92%) and fine sand class (20.37%), moderately sorted (85.19%) to well sorted, symmetrical to positively skewed (50%), platykurtic (40.74%) to mesokurtic (37.04%). Quartz and feldspars are dominant minerals along with sillimanite, rutile, ilmenite and zircon. Result of R-mode factor analysis reveals that carbonates are concentrated in the coarser size fractions (< 0.5 phi and 0.5 to 1.0 phi), whereas magnetites are concentrated in finer size fractions (2.0 - 2.5 phi, 2.5 - 3.0 phi & 3.0 - 3.5 phi).

Abstract: Disserved, labile and non-labile concentrations of Cu,Cd and Pb in coastal waters of Kandla-Porbander Shelf region have been analysed. Labile form of these three elements are dominant over their non-labile form. While labile forms of ph and Cd are relatively enriched in surface due to anthropogenic inputs as well as terrestrial run-off, the sources of labile Cu is of marine origin.

Authors: Shanmugam, A
Abstract: The parabolic equation W = aL(n) was used to study the length-weight relationship of C. nucleus. The correlation coefficient (r) for both immature and mature snails are found to be significant at 0.001 level. Analysis of covariance showed significant difference between the immature and mature snails in their length-weight relationship. Further, the allometric relationships between the body characters of both immature and mature snails were studied by using the equation Y = bX. For all the combinations, the correlation coefficients were found to be significant at 0.001 level. No isometry has been found in any of the combination of the characters. From this study it is evident that this snail conforms a shell of equiangular spire model.
