Authors: Reddi, K R; Jayaraju, N; Suryakumar, I; Sreenivas, K
Abstract: Diurnal variations in environmental features covering over 3 days were recorded. Wind velocity and salinity followed the tidal fluctuations. A slight inverse relationship was observed between water temperature and dissolved oxygen. Variations in the environmental features during the day and night with tides were not so marked. However, these features showed significant variations during the two low tides. The low tides of the day hours showed higher-dissolved oxygen content and relative higher temperatures when compared with low tides of night.

Abstract: The contents of protein, lipid and inorganic elements were at higher level in Manora species as compared to seaweeds collected from Buleji, whereas carbohydrate, crude fiber and moisture were greater in Buleji species. Rhodophyta members showed higher values of carbohydrate (28-62%) than the Chlorophyta and Phaeophyta members. Chlorophyta members showed comparatively high value of protein and lipid.

Authors: Kadam, A N; Bhangale, V P
Abstract: Impact of domestic and industrial wastewaters on coastal waters was studied by monitoring petroleum hydrocarbon concentration (PHC) up to 25 km distance from shore along Okha-Ratnagiri coast during 1989-92. Average PHC levels at all the stations were in 3.9-18.1 mug.l-1 range. The values recorded at Okha, Hazira, Daman, Murud and Ratnagiri were low. Moderately high concentrations were observed at Porbandar, Veraval and Bassein. Inspite of heavy inputs, the creek system around Bombay revealed low contamination. Overall low levels below 100 mug l-1 were observed in present study.

Authors: Ghosh, S K; Jana, T K
Abstract: Total and dissolved inorganic boron in Hugli estuary was studied for 1, y (March 1989 to Feb. 1990). Organic complex form of boron varied between 10.6 and 32.9% of total boron. The observed semiconservative behaviour of boron was possibly due to its co-precipitation with silica.
