Authors: Kaladhar, R; Kamalakaram, S; Varma, K U; Rao, V Bhaskara
Abstract: Forty two species of Foraminifera are recognised from the sediments of inshore waters (3-10 m depth). Both living and dead individuals of Foraminifera have been studied. The assemblage is devoid of agglutinated forms.

Abstract: Barnacles, molluscs and ascidians were the major foulants in Tuticorin harbour. The annual fouling load reached about 5 kg.m-2 on aluminum test panels. Marine growth, principally by molluscs, was more on steel liners and thickness values exceeded 2.5 cm. Of the 42 sessile species sampled, Balanus tintinnabulum and Crassostrea cristagalii produced most orrosion damage to underwater steel structures.

Authors: Ramalakshmi, Y; Chauhan, D V
Abstract: Uptake of nitrate in S. swartzii is reduced in dark but enhanced in light 50±2 uE m-2 s-1. No such difference between light and dark uptake of ammonium is seen. When nitrate and ammonium are added together in the incubation medium, these are taken up simultaneously. Slight inhibition of nitrate uptake is seen in presence of ammonium, but ammonium uptake is not affected by the presence of nitrate. At a given particular concentration of nitrate and ammonium, apical portions are more active in taking up the nutrients compared to the basal portions.

Authors: Mal, T K; Subbaramaiah, K
Abstract: Diurnal periodicity of carpospore shedding of G.edulis was studied March - May 1989. Occurance of a diurnal rhythm with a peak shedding time varying from 1900 to 0100 hrs was recorded. The spore shedding capacity varied between 1696 and 6715. cystocarp-1 d -1 and 72928 and 590920.g-1 plant.d-1. The study suggests and ideal time from 1900 - 0100 hrs for bulk collection of carpospores for mass cultivation.
