Title: Texture And Grain-Size Parameters Of Coastal Sediments Of Chilka Lake
Authors: Sahu, B K; Pradhan, B B; Mishra, S B
Abstract: Sediment samples were collected from foreshore and backshore regions along the landward coast of the main channel of Chilka lake and their texture and size parameters were studied. These parameters were utilised for describing the size distribution of the clastic sediments, the sediment transport and the depositional environments in that particular area of the Lake. Data on statistical parameters revealed that the sediments of the study region were predominantly sandy in nature. These sediments were transported from the sea-bed into the channel of the lake through the mouth by tidal waves. Due to low velocity of wave action, these sediments were deposited almost uniformly in the channel.

Abstract: Monthly variations in the content of gallotannin from the leaves of ten mangrove species (Aegiceras corniculatum, Avicennia marina, A. officinalis, Bruguiera cylindrica, Ceriops decandra, Excoecaria agallocha, Lumnitzera racemosa, Rhizophora apiculata, R. lamarckii and R. mucronata) were studied. The highest content of gallotannin was recorded in Ceriops decandra and Rhizophora spp.

Authors: Jacob, R; Prasad, P N; Kusuma, M S
Abstract: Species of Portunus attained sexual maturity at 81-85 mm size (carapace width) and above. Percentage maturity increased till 111-115 and 121-125 mm size in P. sanguinolentus and P. pelagicus respectively, but thereafter it was irregular. Negative allometric growth of abdomen with respect to carapace width was noticed in both immature and mature females of Portunus spp.

Title: Benthic Harpacticoid Copepod Community Of Saphala Salt-Marsh Along The West-Coast Of India
Authors: Ingole, B S; Ansari, Z A; Parulekar, A H
Abstract: Distribution of meiobenthic harpacticoid copepod species was studied from a low tidal marsh area during August to October 1984. The copepod species density was moderately high. The mean highest density was recorded at a station having highest organic content in the sediment. Among 21 species recorded only Stenhelia longifurca and Halectinosoma curticorne were recorded from all stations. The pattern of abundance of benthic copepod species and poor diversity in the present study area indicate a constant time scale fluctuation of the environment. Physical environmental parameters are suggested to be more important in controlling the community of the harpacticoids in the Saphala salt marsh.
