Title: First report of uniseriate free-living Ulva species with description of new species Ulva uniseriata sp. nov (Chlorophyta, Ulvales).
Authors: Bast, Felix; Rani, Pooja
Abstract: Ulva is recognized as a cosmopolitan genus in the order Ulvales of Chlorophyta. Here, we describe a new species of free-living uniseriate Ulva from the eastern coast of the Indian subcontinent. Distinguishing morphological characteristics include unbranched compressed filamentous thalli, tufts of thallus attached via rhizoids, quadrilateral to elongated cells with round apices, and parietal chloroplasts with multiple pyrenoids per cell. Phylogenetic reconstruction using nrDNA ITS1 locus revealed a distinct monophyletic clade encompassing all of our uniseriate accessions, thus corroborating the new species proposition under the framework of phylogenetic species concept. The closest BLASTn hit was found to be Ulva prolifera, but our isolates had synapomorphic trait of compressed uniseriate thalli which is absent in Ulva prolifera or any of the previously described species of Ulva to date. Based on morphological and molecular synapomorphy, a new free-living uniseriate species Ulva uniseriata sp. nov. is formally proposed.

Abstract: Shorthead fang blenny, Petroscirtes breviceps (Valenciennes, 1836), a species of the family Blenniidae (Order Blenniiformes) is reported here as first record from Chilika Lagoon, Odisha, India based on 20 specimens collected from Chilika lagoon. This also forms the first record from coastal waters of Odisha.

Authors: Jha, Paras Nath; Purushothaman, P.; Chinnadurai, S.; Renjith, R.K.; Remesan, M.P.; Baiju, M.V.; Edwin, Leela
Abstract: The present study reports the occurrence of the pistol shrimp, Alpheus euphrosyne from the South-Eastern Arabian Sea. Identification of the species was based on morphological and molecular examination. One male and two female specimens were collected from the experimental fishing vessel FV Sagar Harita, operating in the Arabian Sea off the south-west coast of India during May 2016.

Authors: Ya-nan, Yao; Jian-bo, Wang; Ai-li, Jiang; Rong-lian, Xing
Abstract: A polyculture system consisting of Apostichopus japonicus and Styela clava was utilized in this study. Phosphorus content and forms in the surface sediment were analyzed together with the activity levels of several enzymes. Various forms of phosphorus in the polyculture system were higher than that in the traditional aquaculture systems. The total phosphorus content ranged from 421.3 mg•kg-1 to 486.7 mg•kg-1 in the polyculture system, while only 349.3 mg•kg-1 to 432.7 mg•kg-1 in the traditional aquaculture systems. However, Fe/Al-bound phosphorus accounted for only 30 % of the inorganic phosphorus in the polyculture system. The activities of urease, alkaline phosphatase, polyphenol oxidase, and catalase in the polyculture system were enhanced in comparison with their activities in the traditional system, which may explain why the integrated system was not eutrophic. These results reveal that the A. japonicus - S. clava polyculture system should be explored as a method of overcoming the current limitations of Apostichopus japonicus aquaculture industry.
