Authors: Dash, M K; Joshi, N; Tripathi, Y B
Abstract: COVID-19 is a severe respiratory disorder caused by the SARS COV-2 virus that involves limited innate immunity. Numerous publications have suggested that plants/minerals used in the traditional system of Ayurveda, has revealed much about the biology of COVID-19. One theory is that combination of anti viral, anti inflammatory, agents activating immune cells, herbs and metals may be helpful for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus infection. Anti-viral drugs used for COVID-19 are those which block RNA synthesis and virus invasion, and bind to receptor proteins on the surface of cells, cell cycle protein, and physiological and pathological processes inhibitor. Anti-inflammatory drugs used for COVID-19 are those which controls transcription of DNA, cytokine production, break down the basement membrane, regulate outer mitochondrial membrane permeability, controlling the host cell life, stimulates activated B-cell and T-cell proliferation, virus dissemination, a slowdown of cell metabolism or secretion of cytokines. Drugs which is having role in the innate immunity, inhibits ROS, enhances cell lifespan, activates macrophages, physiological effects on cells activates the Lung resident immune cells. The focus of this review is to elucidate the Ayurvedic pharmacological properties with their therapeutic targets.

Authors: Kumar, A; Rai, A K; Chiluveri, A C; Chiluveri, S K; Londhe, D; Singh, R; Kumar, S; Goel, S
Abstract: The prophylactic and therapeutic potential of traditional systems of medicine like Ayurveda has not being explored to its maximum in the search for effective solutions to the COVID-19 crisis. The present work is an attempt to strategize the strength of Ayurveda in the prophylaxis and management of COVID-19 as a standalone system or integrated with conventional medicine. The restorative protocols for COVID-19 may be planned on the line of management principles described for infectious diseases, epidemics, fever, and respiratory ailments in Ayurveda with single herb and formulations having proven immunomodulatory and anti-viral properties. The way forward is to adopt an integrative approach by taking leads from Ayurveda and incorporating it into the action strategy to fight this pandemic.

Authors: Nesari, T; Kajaria, D
Abstract: In spite of several advances in healthcare, viruses are emerging and re-emerging as one of the significant reasons for morbidity and mortality on the planet. Currently, COVID-19 has arosed as the most fierce and affright viral infection to be handled by the human race, due to its nature of fast acceleration and slow deceleration. Neither vaccines nor drugs are currently available for prevention, prophylaxis and treatment of SARS-CoV2 infection in humans. Ayurveda, being the “science of holistic living and art of natural healing”, could offer potential solutions for the prevention and management of COVID-19 infection. In this article, an attempt to find possible solutions by analysing the disease profile of COVID-19 using ayurvedic framework is made. Trividha bodhya sangraham is the guiding tool to analyse anukta vyadhi (novel or unsaid diseases). Different six levels of care i.e., preservation, promotion, protection, adjuvant/add-on, stand-alone and supportive recipes may be applied on case-to-case basis. Ayurveda based broad-spectrum antiviral agents could give extra assurance for everybody from novel viral diseases, reinforcing to leverage the potentials of Ayurveda. ‘NAMASTE’ is an acronym introduced to signify the protective measures of corona infection.
