Authors: Patil, U P; Patil, S U
Abstract: Indian sugar mills produce a large volume of agro-waste sugar cane bagasse (SCB), which, due to its improper use,
causes environmental issues. Contrastingly, the valorization of SCB by integrating advanced technologies for biochemical
production can alleviate waste disposal problems, enhance resource utilization, and promote a circular economy. The present
review explores recent advances in SCB-derived valuable biochemicals such as bioethanol, biogas, xylitol, carboxylic
acids, 2,3-butanediol, and furfural using advanced pretreatment techniques and engineered strains. Furthermore, it discusses
the challenges and opportunities in bio-chemical production, the economic and environmental assessment, and the
implications of the Government of India’s (GOI) valuable schemes for agro-waste valorization.

Abstract: The molecular structure of the compound, spectroscopic investigations (FT-IR, FT-Raman, and NMR) and the frontier
energy level analysis of 2-(3,4-Dimethoxyphenyl)-3-hydroxy-4H-chromen-4-one (DMP3H), have been all examined using
density functional theory (DFT) methods. Comparisons are made between predicted DFT geometrical parameters and
experimental values and also the same performed between the theoretical vibrational wavenumbers and observed data.
Chemical reactivity of DMP3H has been studied using DFT/PBEPBE approach that includes frontier orbital energies,
optical characteristics and chemical descriptors. Additionally, the cytotoxic activity of the bioactive ligand has been checked
against human cancer cell lines A549 and MCF-7 in vitro by the MTT assay. Hence, the docking and in vitro activity against
cancer cell lines display positive results and the present ligand performance appears to be a promising way for anticancer
agents with better efficacy.

Authors: Chamekh, Hayet; Chiha, Mahdi; Ahmedchekkat, Fatiha; Souames, Nour El Houda
Abstract: In the present study, the degradation of an azo dye Orange G (OG) by the UV/TiO2/periodate (IO4‾) process has been
investigated. OG was totally disappears within 10 min by the UV/TiO2/IO4‾compared to UV alone, UV/TiO2 or UV/IO4‾. A
synergistic effect has been obtained when combining the UV/TiO2 and the UV/IO4‾systems, resulting in positive interactions
between both processes. Experiments conducted with specific hydroxyl radical scavengers, show that despite the inhibition
effect observed, complete degradation has been achieved beyond 10 min, demonstrating that the degradation is not only
initiated by hydroxyl radical, but also by other reactive entities; the involvement of iodate radical is confirmed with the use
of chromium species as a competitor with periodate ions for the photogenerated electron at the conduction band. The
operating parameters influencing the degradation process such as initial dye concentration, initial periodate concentration,
light intensity/wavelength and initial pH solution have been explored. The presence of inorganic ions such as chloride,
bromide, sulphate, carbonate and bicarbonate ions in the irradiated solution show reverse effects depending on the
concentration used. The OG degradation in different water matrices is found to be sensitive to the presence of different
species and their nature. Chemical oxygen demand (COD) has been partially removed after 10 min of treatment, and then
this COD abatement stabilized, indicating the strength of the by-products from dye degradation by the UV/TiO2/IO4‾ system
during the treatment time. The electrical energy consumption is estimated at 2.21kWhm‾3/Order. The results obtained
indicate that the UV/TiO2/IO4‾ process could be used as a hybrid process to the treatment of dye contaminated water.

Authors: Tanwar, Meenakshi; Gupta, Rajinder K; Rani, Archna
Abstract: This study aimed to synthesize Carboxymethylated Gum Tragacanth (CMGT) from the Gum Tragacanth (GT).
Modified gum’s potential as a drug delivery carrier has been explored by synthesizing CMGT based hydrogels. The
viscoelastic characteristics of the fabricated hydrogel have been examined by Rheological analysis. SEM studies have been
conducted to examine the surface morphology and TGA is used to perform the thermal analysis. XRD, FTIR, and solid state
13C NMR have been used to examine the structural features of the GT, CMGT, sodium acrylate based hydrogel (SAH) and
carboxymethylated gum tragacanth co-polymerized with sodium acrylate based hydrogel (CMGT-co-SAH). The
anti-inflammatory drug, Aceclofenac Sodium(AFS) loaded onto the hydrogel has been used as a model drug. The AFS
follows the Fickian mechanism of diffusion and the results are best fitted in Higuchi and Korsmeyer–Peppas models.
