Authors: Kamarajan, Murugan; Srinivasan, Kandasamy Sundaresan; Ravichandran, Cingaram
Abstract: Improving the bio-oil yield is a challenging part in the thermochemical conversion processes of biomass. Implementing
suitable pre-treatment technology to improve the biomass characteristics is an effective technique to increase the yield. In
this study, a multi-variate random forest algorithm has been used to optimize the pre-treatment method in order to improve
the biomass characteristics. The data collected from many previous studies are analysed to identify the importance of
biomass characteristics in bio-oil yield. The correlation between biomass characteristics and bio-oil yield, is analysed using
Pearson method and the important influencing parameters %C and %H have a very good positive correlation with a
coefficient value range 0.455 to 0.818. Among the six pre-treatment methods analysed, thermochemical pre-treatment
method was found effective with more than 95% improvement of many biomass characteristics. The range of voting given
to the parameters identify %H be the important characteristic to be optimized first. The suggested method is validated by
laboratory experiments and % accuracy between predicted and calculated biomass characteristic values showed more than
90% accuracy for all the biomass characteristic parameters tested in this study.

Authors: Peta, Sreenivasulu; Mishra, Shailesh Kumar
Abstract: In this study, we report a simple method for the synthesis of zinc aluminophosphate (ZnAlPO4) nanoparticles possessing
stable possessing ANA-zeotype and LEV crystalline structures. The synthesised nanoparticles exhibit considerable catalytic
activity towards selective hydroxylation of toluene. The LEV structures are obtained by hydrothermal synthesis at 150–170 °C,
while the ANA structure is obtained just by a simple room-temperature mixing of the ingredients. The synthesised ANAzeotype
nanoparticles exhibit considerable catalytic activity towards selective hydroxylation of toluene.

Authors: Dash, Rupashree; Besra, Laxmidhar; Dash, Sukalyan
Abstract: A wet milling process has been used as a novel method to fabricate single phase alumina. To fabricate the
most thermodynamically stable form of alumina i.e., α-Al2O3, slurry method has been used here. α-Al2O3 has the widest
band gap ～8.8 eV which makes it more valuable in electronic devices for use as a perfect insulator. Further, to confirm the
surface morphology of the prepared α-Al2O3 sample, scanning electronic microscopy has been done. The prepared
α-Al2O3 sample has been characterized using X-ray diffraction pattern, Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy and
photoluminescence spectroscopy. Raman spectroscopy of prepared α-Al2O3 has also been performed to understand the
behaviour at microscopic level and also to confirm the purity of the single phase α-Al2O3 sample.

Authors: Rajagopalan, Srinath; Sriram, Aswin; Purushothaman, Shobana
Abstract: This study presents an investigation into the effectiveness of utilizing biomass derived from Prosopis juliflora
(Mesquite) and bagasse for the removal of hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] from water sources. The experimental analysis
includes examining the impact of various factors such as adsorbent type, concentration, and temperature on the removal
efficiency of Cr(VI). The obtained data reveal that both Mesquite and bagasse exhibit varying degrees of removal efficiency
under different experimental conditions. Mesquite demonstrates higher removal percentages for specific Cr(VI)
concentrations, particularly at 100 ppm and a temperature of 60°C. On the other hand, bagasse showcases better removal
efficiency for certain concentrations. The comparative analysis of the two adsorbents indicates the influence of their distinct
properties on the removal process. The results emphasize the importance of carefully selecting the appropriate adsorbent and
optimizing operating conditions to achieve efficient Cr(VI) removal. The findings of this study contribute to the
understanding of the potential of Mesquite and bagasse as adsorbents for hexavalent chromium removal and underscore the
need for tailored strategies to address diverse water contamination scenarios.
