Title: Traditional fishing techniques of tribes in Bastar region of Chhattisgarh
Authors: Adikant, Pradhan; Nag, S K; Patil, S K
Abstract: Tribal habitant and rich
primitive culture covers many tradition and fish is an integral part of tribes’
food habit since time immemorial for the region. The lives of tribes mainly
depend on naturally` available foods which can rarely be reaped in other
places. Participatory research tools such as group discussion, semi-structured
interviews, key informant survey and on-site observation were taken to acquire
the fish harvesting practices followed by tribes. During rainy season, many
types of fishing net, fishing gears, bamboo frame, etc. are commonly used in
running as well as stagged water. These are locally known as Jali, Gari, Pelna, Thapa, Bisar, Dandar, Sodiya, etc. with widely adopted in small to
large flow of water for individual to collective form of fishes.

Traditional knowledge used in paddy cultivation in Raipur district, Chhattisgarh

Title: Traditional knowledge used in paddy cultivation in Raipur district, Chhattisgarh
Authors: Rizwana; Lyaqet
Abstract: The study was conducted in six villages of
Dharsiva block of Raipur district of Chhattisgarh. Rice is the main crop being
cultivated. The paper describes the indigenous technologies used by the farmers
in paddy cultivation. For seed germination, preventing the crop from
insect/pest attack in the field and during the storage they apply their rich
traditional knowledge. They find the indigenous knowledge very useful,
therefore Indigenous technical knowledge possessed by the farmers shall be
identified, and farmers shall be helped to understand and exchange the cheaper,
viable and reliable technologies in their areas.

Indigenous grain storage structures of South Tamil Nadu

Title: Indigenous grain storage structures of South Tamil Nadu
Authors: Sundaramari, M; Ganesh, S; Kannan, GS; Seethalakshmi, M; Gopalsamy, K
Abstract: Modernization of Indian agriculture has caused extinction of several
Indigenous agricultural practices which once played a vital role in bringing
down the dependency of our farmers. Preservation of food grains through
indigenous methods is considered as one of the most important traditional ways
in our Indian agriculture from time immemorial. The objective of the paper is to
rejuvenate the vanished grain storage structures which have been in vogue until
recent times, as one of the measures to meet out the challenges posed by
globalization.

Evaluation of self-life and organoleptic aspects of fruits stored in a modified traditional earthen pot cool chamber

Title: Evaluation of self-life and organoleptic aspects of fruits stored in a modified traditional earthen pot cool chamber
Authors: Murugan, AM; Singh, Ranjith AJA
Abstract: The efficacy of earthen pot cool chamber to store vegetables
and fruits were studied using tomato, grapes and brinjal. The quality retaining
capacity in the products kept in earthen pot cool chamber was compared with
other type of storage system like refrigeration and room temperature. After 9
days of storage, physiological weight loss, changes in microbial, nutrient
(biochemical changes) and organoleptic value were evaluated. The products
stored in earthen pot cool chamber were fresh and less affected when compared
to other storage systems. The study revealed that the earthen pot cool chamber
(EPCC) is a good storage system to keep the vegetables in fresh condition. It
is an eco-friendly, energy saving and cost effective alternative method to
substitute refrigeration.
