Abstract: <span style="font-size:14.0pt;line-height:

region for energetic protons. Different criteria to measure diffusion strength
support this result. The result is in agreement with various theoretical and <i>in</i>

Title: Role of oblique whistler-mode waves in energetic electron precipitation at the lower edge of inner radiation belt
Authors: Prakash, Ram; Agrawal, Bal Mukund
Abstract: <span style="font-size:14.0pt;line-height:
115%;font-family:" times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-font-family:"times="" roman";="" color:black;mso-ansi-language:en-in;mso-fareast-language:en-in;mso-bidi-language:="" hi"="" lang="EN-IN">An attempt has been made to study the precipitation of energetic (keV and
MeV) electrons at the lower edge of inner radiation belt in terms of their
quasi-linear gyro-resonant interaction with oblique whistler-mode waves. The
calculated average pitch angle scattering (~10-1 degree) and
lifetimes (~ days and hours only) indicate a significant electron precipitation
by these waves into the lower latitude atmosphere. The low calculated lifetimes
of energetic electrons and sufficiently high calculated flux of precipitated
electrons caused due to gyro-resonant interaction involving oblique
whistler-mode waves show that these non-ducted waves are likely to be an effective
electron precipitator at the lower edge of inner radiation belt.</span>

Modelling of tropospheric ozone in the equatorial region

Title: Modelling of tropospheric ozone in the equatorial region
Authors: Jain, Meena; Kundu, Namita
Abstract: The averaged
ozone profile at the Indian station Trivandrum
(8° N) is analyzed to get its characteristics in the tropical region. The
vertical profile derived from rocket and balloonsonde data shows low
concentration of ozone in the 8-12 km

<span style="font-size:14.0pt;line-height:115%;font-family:" times="" new="" roman";="" mso-fareast-font-family:"times="" roman";color:black;mso-ansi-language:en-in;="" mso-fareast-language:en-in;mso-bidi-language:hi"="" lang="EN-IN">altitude range. A
photochemical-diffusive model has been developed to explain this phenomenon.
The calculated profile obtained from the model does not give the knee in the
above mentioned height range, but the shape produced by the model tallies with
the observed profiles.</span>
