    <title>Production of international quality yarn</title>

    <description>Title: Production of international quality yarn
Authors: Balasubramanian, P
Abstract: The production of international quality yarn is somewhat an uphill task for most of the spinners of Indian textile industry. The yarn export of this industry — with an installed capacity of about 26.59 million spindles, which is nearly 17% of world’s installed ring spindles — accounts for only 4% of the total export market. This paper attempts to clear some of the myths entertained by the spinners and highlights the methodology to be adopted to produce international quality yarn.

    <title>Recent developments in two-for-one twisting and their relevance to Indian textile units</title>

    <description>Title: Recent developments in two-for-one twisting and their relevance to Indian textile units
Authors: Patil, R G; Agrawal, A K; Patel, K A; Grover, J M
Abstract: Two-for-one&#xD;
twisters have gained wide acceptance in the international as well as in the&#xD;
Indian markets. This paper describes the recent developments, including those exhibited&#xD;
at ITMA-91, in TFO twisters and their relevance to Indian textile units. The developments&#xD;
are mainly in the application areas, machine productivity, refinement in the functional&#xD;
parts, automation and process control instrumentation, and environmental&#xD;
compatibility of the machines. A cost comparison of twisting on low-cost completely&#xD;
indigenous machine and high-cost but high productivity machine is also made.

    <title>An overview of spinning technologies: Possibilities, applications and limitations</title>

    <description>Title: An overview of spinning technologies: Possibilities, applications and limitations
Authors: Salhotra, K R
Abstract: The new spinning&#xD;
technologies such as rotor, air jet and friction spinning have tremendous potential&#xD;
for higher productivity. However, at present these technologies not only suffer&#xD;
from the problem of imparting some undesirable properties to the fabric but also&#xD;
have limited applicability due to the restricted choice of fibres and counts which&#xD;
can be successfully spun on them. Ring-spinning system, though having lower productivity,&#xD;
does not have these drawbacks. This system, therefore, with the incorporation of&#xD;
some recent&#xD;
&#xD;
improvements&#xD;
is likely to occupy the centre stage for the next few years.

    <title>Wrap spinning technology — A critical review of yarn properties</title>

    <description>Title: Wrap spinning technology — A critical review of yarn properties
Authors: Subramaniam, V; Mohamed, A Peer
Abstract: The wrap spinning&#xD;
has the advantage of using coarser fibres for finer yarns in addition to its superiority&#xD;
in production and yarn quality. This paper discusses the structure and properties&#xD;
of wrap spun yarns and identifies areas that need researchers’ attention to have&#xD;
a better understanding of the applications of these&#xD;
&#xD;
yarns.
