    <title>Science and technology of man-made fibres: The Indian R&amp;D scenario</title>

    <description>Title: Science and technology of man-made fibres: The Indian R&amp;D scenario
Authors: Bhat, N V; Teli, M D; Benjamin, Y N
Abstract: The research&#xD;
and development work relating to the science and technology of man-made fibres&#xD;
covers a very wide field which includes the manufacture of fibre-forming&#xD;
polymers, conversion of polymer to fibres, manufacture of yarns and fabrics and&#xD;
their chemical processing. The R&amp;D work being done in India in these different&#xD;
areas is briefly reviewed in this paper with particular reference to the significant&#xD;
work done during the past ten years or so. Though every attempt has been made&#xD;
to include the major contributions made by different groups in the country, the&#xD;
account is by no means comprehensive. Finally, some areas have been identified,&#xD;
particularly the weak and emerging areas, in which there is a definite need to strengthen&#xD;
the R&amp;D base.

Authors: Gupta, V B; Radhakrishnan, J
Abstract: Some important&#xD;
structural and morphological aspects of crystals in polymeric fibres and their&#xD;
influence on the mechanical, thermal and optical properties of the crystal and&#xD;
the fibre are considered. These include the role of molecular architecture,&#xD;
crystal defects, nature of crystal-amorphous coupling, crystal content , crystal&#xD;
size and crystal orientation on the stiffness, strength, melting point, thermal&#xD;
expansion, birefringence, etc. Of the crystal and the fibre. Some important&#xD;
aspects of crystal formation are also discussed . The emphasis throughout is on&#xD;
poly(ethylene terephthalate) fibres.

    <title>Some recent advances in the production of acrylic fibres for specific end uses</title>
    <link>http://nopr.niscpr.res.in/handle/123456789/19212</link>
    <description>Title: Some recent advances in the production of acrylic fibres for specific end uses
Authors: Bajaj, P; Paliwal, Dinesh K
Abstract: Since the introduction&#xD;
of acrylic fibres as a wool-like apparel fibre to the textile market in the early&#xD;
1950s, their applications have greatly diversified. Substantial modifications of&#xD;
the acrylic fibres are now possible at several points in the manufacturing route.&#xD;
These range from the selection of comonomers&#xD;
&#xD;
through changes&#xD;
in spinning conditions to specific thermal and chemical modifications. In this&#xD;
paper, some of the developments which have taken place in the recent past to&#xD;
tailor the properties of acrylic fibres for specific applications have been&#xD;
highlighted.

    <title>Some recent developments in the production of monomers and fibre-forming polymers</title>
    <link>http://nopr.niscpr.res.in/handle/123456789/19211</link>
    <description>Title: Some recent developments in the production of monomers and fibre-forming polymers
Authors: Mukherjee, A K
Abstract: Some&#xD;
significant developments of the past decade in the production of monomers and&#xD;
fibre-forming polymers have been reviewed with particular reference to nylon 6,&#xD;
poly(ethylene terephthalate), polyacrylonitrile and polypropylene. A brief&#xD;
reference is also made to the roles played by additives and other ingredients. Some&#xD;
developments which have led to better understanding of the effect of reaction parameters&#xD;
on process design and polymer properties have been briefly described. In cases&#xD;
where no significant&#xD;
&#xD;
developments&#xD;
have taken place, the established process of manufacture is briefly described.
