Microwave interactive properties of cotton fabrics coated with carbon nanotubes/polyurethane composite

Title: Microwave interactive properties of cotton fabrics coated with carbon nanotubes/polyurethane composite
Authors: Gupta, K K; Abbas, S M; Srivastava, Anurag; Nasim, M; Saxena, A K; Abhyankar, Ashutosh
Abstract: <span style="mso-bidi-font-family:" times="" new="" roman""="" lang="EN-GB">In
the present study, the inherent characteristic of carbon nanotubes to absorb/attenuate
the energy of electromagnetic waves has been exploited. The results indicate
that the incorporation of CNTs in the polyurethane matrix has significant
effect on the microwave interaction properties. Fabrics are developed through
coating process using formulations based on different concentrations of multi
–walled carbon nanotubes in polyurethane matrix on two different types of
fabrics,
i.e. plain weave fabric &amp; mesh fabric (netting). The coated fabrics have
been evaluated for microwave interaction properties in X and Ku –band in terms
of four parameters, viz. reflection, transmission , absorption, reflection
loss, permittivity and surface resistivity of materials. The absorption of upto
40%, permittivity value of 25.0 in frequency range 8.2-12.4 GHz
(X- Band) and reflection loss of 5-10 dB in frequency range of 2-18 GHz (X and
Ku band) have been observed.

Roughness and frictional properties of cotton and polyester woven fabrics

Title: Roughness and frictional properties of cotton and polyester woven fabrics
Authors: Sülar, Vildan; Öner, Eren; Okur, Ayşe
Abstract: <span style="mso-ansi-language:EN-US" lang="EN-US">The
roughness and frictional properties of cotton and polyester fabrics and
relationship between these properties have been investigated and compared. Two
sets of test samples comprising nine cotton and twelve polyester fabrics have
been woven by systematically changing parameters such as weave type, weft
setting and linear density of weft yarn. The fabric roughness measurements are
conducted by using a new surface roughness tester for textile applications and
the fabric friction measurements are performed with a friction attachment
adaptable to a tensile tester. All the results are statistically evaluated in
relation to the structural parameters of the test fabrics by using multivariate
variance analyses. The relationship between roughness and frictional properties
is examined by correlation analyses. For all the test fabrics, it can be noted
that an increase in weft setting causes decrease in fabric roughness values for
every weave type and this tendency is in accordance with the fabric friction
results. When the relationships between the frictional and roughness values are
examined, statistically significant and high correlations are determined for
both of the cotton and polyester fabrics.

Studies on kinetic and thermodynamic parameters of natural dye curcumin on PLA fibre

Title: Studies on kinetic and thermodynamic parameters of natural dye curcumin on PLA fibre
Authors: Wu, Jihong; Guo, Hui; Ke, Jun; Fan, Jiangtao
Abstract: <span style="font-size:9.0pt;mso-bidi-font-size:
11.0pt;color:black" lang="EN-GB">The dyeing kinetics and thermodynamics for PLA fibre dyed
with the natural dye curcumin have been studied. The rate of dye uptake, half
dyeing time, diffusion coefficient, standard affinity, heat and entropy of
dyeing have been determined. Linear isotherms are
obtained, suggesting that the mechanism of dyeing is similar to that of
disperse dyes. The rate of dye uptake and the total dye uptake increase with the
increase in dyeing temperature.

Studies on elastane-cotton core-spun stretch yarns and fabrics: Part II – Fabric low-stress mechanical characteristics

Title: Studies on elastane-cotton core-spun stretch yarns and fabrics: Part II – Fabric low-stress mechanical characteristics
Authors: Das, A; Chakraborty, R
Abstract: The present paper reports study on the
interaction effect of <span style="mso-bidi-font-weight:bold">elastane stretch,
proportion of elastane core and twist multiplier on tensile and
low-stress mechanical properties of woven fabrics made from stretchable
elastane-cotton core-spun yarns. A three-variable factorial design technique,
proposed by Box & Behnken, has been used to investigate the combined
interaction effect of the above variables on various tensile (breaking load and
elongation) and low-stress mechanical characteristics (shear rigidity, shear
hysteresis, bending rigidity, bending hysteresis, linearity of compression
thickness curve, compressional energy, compressional resilience) of fabrics. It
has been observed that the tensile and low-stress mechanical characteristics of
woven fabrics made from elastane core-spun yarns are significantly influenced
by the process parameters. But, n<span style="mso-ansi-language:
EN-US" lang="EN-US">o specific trend is observed in breaking elongation of fabrics for any
of the process variables.<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight:normal"></b>
