Title: Chandrasekhar: Winner of the 1983 Nobel prize for physics: A citation analysis study of his works
Authors: Gupta, Davendra K
Abstract: <span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:
115%;font-family:" times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-font-family:"times="" roman";="" mso-ansi-language:en-us;mso-fareast-language:en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="" lang="EN-US">A brief
reference is made of the reward system in science and Nobel Prizes.
Chandrasekhar shared the 1983 Nobel Prize for physics with William A. Fowler. A
brief biographical account in respect of Chandrasekhar is also given. The data
collected from the comprehensive volumes and annual cumulative volumes of the
Science Citation Index were analyzed. In all 401 works of Chandrasekhar were
cited 10,359 times during 1965-1980. Out of all the contributions six could be
identified as citation classics, having received about 53% of all the citations.
Chandrasekhar received several prestigious awards during the last fifty years
and reached to the apex in 1983 having received Nobel Prize. The study of this
analysis is concluded by stating that there is a high correlation in quantity,
quality of works, citedness and receiving honors and awards, and in the case of
Chandrasekhar the recognition appears to be belated.</span>

paper attempts to describe the development of the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules
in the light of various facts having important bearing on these rules. The
salient features and weaknesses of each edition of the Code are highlighted.
The Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, 2nd edition, published in 1978 and implemented
in 1981 has been discussed in detail. Its impact on cataloguing in general and on
library automation in particular is the major focus of this study.</span>

a short overview of the merging and fusing technologies of computer,
communication and media that constitute together information technologies which
are introducing a change in human social, economic and cultural life as
fundamental as those that were brought about by the industrial revolution, The information
problem is viewed with this perspective and the concept of the post-industrial society
is discussed. The Indian situation is seen in this context and the problems and
possibilities of using information as a national resource are focused. Suggests
a national information policy to be in tune with the other national policies to
evolve a total information system/network that would meet the variegated demands
for information.</span>
