in the university libraries of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh is
highlighted. Calculates the wastage due to duplication in terms of finance.
Highlights the role of resource sharing in journal collection building.
Prepares a ranked list of journals on the basis of citation analysis of the
journal of the Indian Chemical Society for the year 1979 and according to the
number of universities subscribing to a particular journal. Includes some
proposals for the subscription of chemistry journals, keeping in view the idea
of resource sharing.</span>

Title: Trends in nuclear research and its publications - An analysis based on five years coverage in the Indian science abstracts
Authors: Verma, R K; Sharma, Y K; Khatri, H S D
Abstract: <span style="font-size:12.0pt;
line-height:115%;mso-fareast-font-family:" times="" new="" roman";mso-ansi-language:="" en-us;mso-fareast-language:en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa;font-style:normal;="" mso-bidi-font-style:italic"="" lang="EN-US">The analysis of Indian journals, covering Nuclear
Physics literature received from different institutions based on 'Indian
Science Abstracts has been reported. The survey reveals that more than 50% of
the literature is concentrated in four journals and one annual publication -
'Proceedings of the Nuclear Physics and Solid State Physics Symposium' which contains
23 per cent of the total articles. The institutes of higher learning and BARC
are the main contributors. The trends of research and its publication in
various journals propose the publication of a new journal to prevent the scattering
of articles and also to channelize the contributions of the researchers in this
subject area.</span>

Title: Transborder data flow debate
Authors: Gupta, B M; Gupta, S P
Abstract: <span style="font-size:12.0pt;
line-height:115%;mso-fareast-font-family:" times="" new="" roman";mso-ansi-language:="" en-us;mso-fareast-language:en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa;font-style:normal;="" mso-bidi-font-style:italic"="" lang="EN-US">The paper attempts to provide an overview of the
current debate on transborder data flow. It is divided into five sections. The
first section provides the definition and basic concepts of transborder data
flow. Traces the recent developments in computer and communication technologies
and the emergence of computer communication networks. Describes the reasons and
advantages in the international transmission of information. Lists out the
broader issues currently under discussion in the transborder data flow debate.
This is followed by discussion on the concern for these issues in different countries
and how they perceive them in their national informatics policies in the next section.
The next two sections describe the type and volume of data being transmitted
and the various actors and participants involved in the transborder data flow
debate. The final section discusses in detail the issues involved in the whole
debate namely that of personal privacy; national sovereignty, independence and
power and the social; cultural and economic issues arising as a result of
international transmission of information.</span>
