a recent report published in the United States that suggests a new&#xD;
perspective for organizing information systems for problem-solving. The organizing&#xD;
principle has to be science, technical and societal information (STSI) for this&#xD;
purpose. Examines the relevance of this study to the situation obtaining in India.&#xD;
Concludes that a high power national commission should be set up to study all&#xD;
problems of information to develop a STSI for India.&lt;/span&gt;

study has been carried out taking the citations appearing in the Annals of&#xD;
Library Science (afterwards Annals of Library Science and Documentation during&#xD;
1954-1975 (Vols.1-22) as a base. Of the total 1545 citations appeared in the&#xD;
journal 217 relate to Indian journal articles &amp; 350 relate to foreign&#xD;
journal articles Of the Indian periodicals Annals of Library Science&#xD;
(afterwards Annals of Library Science and Documentation) has been cited most&#xD;
accounting for 48.4% of the Indian journal citations. Of the foreign&#xD;
periodicals, American Documentation has been cited most accounting for 12% of&#xD;
the total foreign journal citations. The study also reveals that 77% of the&#xD;
Indian journal citations relate to only 5 journals, out of 24 and 68.3% of the&#xD;
foreign journal citation relate to 16 journals out of 85 journal cited.&lt;/span&gt;
