for the extraction of Os (VIII) from its acidic solution with 0.01M Bis-2 ethylhexyl
phosphoric acid (HDEHP). The metal ion from the loaded organic phase is
stripped with mixture of thiourea and HCl and then determined by the thioerea
method. The method is simple and can be used for the selective extraction and
separation of osmium from other metal ions.</span>

4, 6-trimethyl-(1H, 4H)-pyrimidine-1-acetic acid (MTPAcH) has been developed.
Various polar organic solvents have been examined. Maximum enhancement is
observed in the presence of 40% acetonitrile. Very poor extractability
necessitated the use of calcium nitrate as the salting out agent.</span>

8-aminoceramidone derivatives have been synthesized by condensation of
bromamine acid (1-amino-4-bromoanthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid) with various
arylamines followed by simultaneous desulphonation and cyclization with a
mixture of concentrated sulphuric and orthophosphoric acids which saves the
time and reduces the cost. Addition of optimum quantity of urea minimizes
charring of the dyes by concentrated acids. The dyeing properties of these
fifteen dyes have been assessed on polyesters.</span>

has been shown by steel industries. Mercury emission from the stacks of steel
industries was reported earlier. The respective samples of soil, ground water
and pond water were collected from the susceptible and non-susceptible sites
around the steel plant within a distance of 10 km. Samples were analyzed for
the presence of mercury by mercury analyzer. Mercury concentration more than
1:0 ppm was observed in soils of high susceptible Sites. Mercury concentration
in the range of 0.5-1.0 ppm was observed in the east and west direction of the
plant upto a distance of 7 km. In case of ground water and pond water
contamination, mercury concentration was found to be more than 10.0 ppb upto a
distance of 10 km at high susceptible sites. Concentration range of 10.0
ppb-1.0 ppb was observed within the distance of 7 km at less susceptible sites.
Concentration below the permissible limits for drinking water (1.0 ppb) was
observed beyond the distance of 7 km at less susceptible sites.</span>
