Assessing the Weavability of Splicings

Title: Assessing the Weavability of Splicings
Authors: Hari, P K; Aggarwal, S K; Subramanian, T A
Abstract: <span style="font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;
font-family:" calibri","sans-serif";mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-fareast-font-family:="" calibri;mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin;="" mso-bidi-font-family:arial;mso-ansi-language:en-us;mso-fareast-language:en-us;="" mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">An attempt has been made to evaluate the splicings for
their performance in weaving. The process of splicing, particularly for
low-quality yarns, not only reduces the yarn strength, elongation and abrasion
resistance but also introduces into the yarn some very weak splicings, which,
in turn, could be the source of warp breaks in weaving. Microscopic examination
of such splicings revealed that they have an inherent deficiency in the
structure itself which renders them to be weak.</span>

Reed Mark of Fabric and Its Relation with Warp Tension at Beat-up with Different Loom Settings

Authors: Neogi, S K; Bhattacharyya, P K
Abstract: <span style="font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;
font-family:" calibri","sans-serif";mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-fareast-font-family:="" calibri;mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin;="" mso-bidi-font-family:timesnewromanpsmt;mso-ansi-language:en-us;mso-fareast-language:="" en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">Reed mark of jute fabric with plain weave,
expressed as reed mark percentage (RMP), has been studied with different loom
parameters. Attempts have also been made to find out the relationships between
RMP and (a) tension difference between two warp shed lines at beat-up and (b)
seepage of the fabric. RMP at fell varies in the same manner as that at grey
state of fabric with different loom settings and the relationship between them
is linear with correlation coefficient of 0.96. RMP at grey state decreases with
earlier shed timing, higher back rest position and change of leasing pattern of
warp yarns from one-by-one to two-by-two. Beat-up tension difference varies
inversely with RMP and the relationship between them is linear with correlation
coefficients of - 0.91 and - 0.76 for different shed timings and back rest
positions respectively. Seepage of the fabric is directly related with RMP with
correlation coefficient of 0.64.</span>

of polypropylene and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) was measured at 185, 200
and 215oC using Weissenberg cone and plate rheogoniometer. Fibres
Were spun from these blends at 200oC and the mechanical properties
of these fibres were measured using Instron tensile strength meter. The
addition of small amounts of HPPE to polypropylene improved the tenacity
considerably.</span>
