Title: Morphology of Jute Fibre at Different Stages of Plant Growth
Authors: Das, B K; Ray, P K; Chakravarty, A C
Abstract: <span style="font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;
font-family:" calibri","sans-serif";mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-fareast-font-family:="" "times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast;mso-hansi-theme-font:="" minor-latin;mso-bidi-font-family:"times="" roman";mso-ansi-language:en-us;="" mso-fareast-language:en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">Fibre dimensions like
length, breadth, lumen size and thickness of the cell wall were studied for
jute at different stages of growth of the plant. The breadth and cell wall
thickness increase up to a certain stage and then become almost constant, but
the length of the ultimate fibres shows a downward trend after a certain stage.
The steadiness in lignifications and the absence of turgor pressure at a later
stage might account for the shrinking of the ultimate fibres in the macerated
state.</span>

Title: DTA and IR Studies on Cellulose Treated with a Formulation Based on Phosphorus, Nitrogen and Sulphur Synergism
Authors: Gupta, Jagdish Chandra; Bhatnagar, Satish; Lal, Krishan; Bhatnagar, Hari L
Abstract: <span style="font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;
font-family:" calibri","sans-serif";mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-fareast-font-family:="" "times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast;mso-hansi-theme-font:="" minor-latin;mso-bidi-font-family:"times="" roman";mso-ansi-language:en-us;="" mso-fareast-language:en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">DTA studies were made on
cellulose treated with THPC and thiourea in the presence of trace amounts of
ammonium dihydrogen orthophosphate as a function of hydrogen ion concentration
in air and nitrogen atmospheres. The thermo grams showed differences in the
decomposition temperatures, depending upon the <i>p</i>H of the formulations.
The thermograms of the treated cellulose had sharp and well defined peaks in
air atmosphere, whereas in nitrogen atmosphere, double peak patterns were
observed. Infrared spectra of some selected samples, which had been partially
or completely charred near the peak temperatures, gave an indication of
dehydration and skeletal rearrangement of the thioamide linkage in the adduct.</span>

determining the Crystallinity of polyethylene Terephthalate fibres, five based
on X-ray diffraction and one on density measurement, are evaluated on the basis
of data obtained for a large number of samples. The advantages and shortcomings
of various methods are discussed and it is concluded that for accurate work it
would be advisable to compute Crystallinity by more than one method to ensure
that the results do not show undue variations.</span>
