Title: Occurrence of Vibrio sp. in Sardinella longiceps during spawning season along the west coast of India.
Authors: Deshmukh, Abhay
Abstract: Present study consists the occurrence of potentially pathogenic Vibrio species in Sardinella longiceps during this season. Gut, gills and ovary of S. longiceps were studied for bacterial flora. Here we report presence of Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Vibrio mimicus and Vibrio metschnikovii in all the organs studied, except male testes where Vibrio metschnikovii was not reported. Vibrio isolated from S. longiceps are not fish pathogens but they are human pathogens so care should be taken to avoid vibrio food poisoning associated with the consumption of S. longiceps during this season.

Title: Performance Investigation of Genetic Algorithm Based LCL Resonant Converter in Marine Applications
Authors: Selvaperumal, S.; Vijayarajan, S.; Pugazhenthi, P. Nedumal; Prabhakar, G.; Nagarajan, R.
Abstract: This manuscript presents steady state stability analysis of LCL RC using frequency plot. Careful analysis favours LCL RC has the fine stability region. Also this paper presents a comparative estimation of conventional Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) Controller and Genetic Algorithm (GA) based PID controller for a modified LCL RC. The above controllers are simulated using MATLAB and their performance is analyzed. Result of the analysis shows the supremacy of GA based PID controller over the conventional PID control method. Design, simulation and experimental results for a 133W, 50 KHz GA based LCL resonant converter is presented in this script. In this work, the applicability of the Philips ARM (Advanced RISC Machine) processor LPC 2148 is also investigated for implementing the GA based PID controller for marine applications.

Title: A Novel	Methodology Based on Bacterial Foraging Technique in Paper Industry and Marine Application
Authors: Kumar, M.Senthil; Mahadevan, K.
Abstract: Recently, Bacterial Foraging Optimization Algorithm has been of great interest in global optimization for industrial control. Escherichia coli’s social foraging behaviour is the inspiration for BFOA.BFOA is very efficient in solving real-world optimization issues in various domains. E.coli’s biological behaviour of exhibiting foraging is emulated to an optimization algorithm called BFOA ,hence it is well-suited for Marine application..The chemotaxis step in BFOA is analysed using mathematical model. Analysing lead to a adaptive variant of BFOA,in which chemotactic step size is varied in accordance with current fitness of a virtual bacterium.

Title: Detection of antibacterial activity and its characterization from the marine macro-algae Sargassum wightii (Greville ex J. Agardh 1848)
Authors: Rosaline, Devanya; Sakthivelkumar, S; Rajendran, K; Janarthanan, S
Abstract: Natural occurrence of a compound, mono-ethylhexylphthalate (MEHP) in one of the column fractions of marine macro-algae Sargassum wightii with promising antibacterial activity is examined. Infrared spectroscopy disclosed the presence of one acid group, one ester group, aromatic and aliphatic chains. 1H and 13C NMR spectra along with IR data predicted the structure of MEHP. Abundance of MEHP in the column fraction IV of S. wightii and its effective antibacterial activity points toward the potential utility of macro-algae Sargassum wightii as a source of novel biomedical compound.
