<title>A mathematical account of marine corrosion behaviour of galvanised steel structures installed in Digha coast of Bay of Bengal</title>

<description>Title: A mathematical account of marine corrosion behaviour of galvanised steel structures installed in Digha coast of Bay of Bengal
Authors: Bhattacharjee, Ashis K; Singh, Inder
Abstract: An approximate mathematical equation in terms of atmospheric chloride count, C(mg/m(2)/day) and the average rainfall, R(f)(mm/day) to evaluate marine corrosion rate of galvanised structures and installations is attempted. Mathematical relationship giving thickness-loss, TL, due to marine corrosion of galvanised steel installations at the Digha coast of the Bay of Bengal has been worked out to be TL = 1.086 x 10(-2) x C x R(f).

<description>Title: Occurrence of Hydroclathrus tenuis Tseng &amp; Baoren, (Phaeophyta) from Gulf of Kutch, northwest coast of India
Authors: Jagtap, T G; Untawale, A G
Abstract: Hydroclathrus clathratus (C. Agardh), a marine brown alga was considered to be a monotypic, till H. tenuis Tseng &amp; Baoren was reported during 1983 from south China Sea. Recently the same alga was noticed to be abundant from Kalubhar Island in the Gulf of Kutch (India), during February-March 1994. A few ecological and relevant taxonomical observations made on the alga have been described here, which is incidently the first record from the Indian Ocean.

<title>Distribution of organic carbon in the sediments of Cochin mangroves, south west coast of India</title>

<description>Title: Distribution of organic carbon in the sediments of Cochin mangroves, south west coast of India
Authors: Kumar, R Sunil
Abstract: Vertical and horizontal distribution pattern of organic carbon in the mangrove sediments have been studied. Concentration of organic carbon varied from 0.17 to 4.05% in the study area. Correlation and predilection between organic carbon and the texture of sediment are elucidated. Organic carbon has a proportional and patent relationship with the finer fractions (silt + clay) of the sediment. Inconsistent pattern concomitant with the inconsistant concentration in accumulation of organic carbon in the sediment with regard to vertical as well as horizontal distribution was discernible in the tidal area of mangrove swamp.

<title>Zooplankton ecology in the Mandovi-Zuari estuarine system of Goa, west coast of India</title>
    <link>http://nopr.niscpr.res.in/handle/123456789/37133</link>
<description>Title: Zooplankton ecology in the Mandovi-Zuari estuarine system of Goa, west coast of India
Authors: Padmavati, G; Goswami, S C
Abstract: Seasonal variability in the physico-chemical features, zooplankton standing stock (biomass) and faunal composition in the Mandovi-Zuari estuarine system of Goa during January to December 1990 were studied. Hydrobiological characteristics were influenced by the southwest monsoon. Salinity fluctuations were drastic (0.1 to 36.6 x 10(-3)). This appeared to cause variations in plankton production and heterogeneity of various taxa. Zooplankton biomass and total numerical counts varied significantly between seasons and estuaries. Highest biomass values (1.9 ml/m(3)) were recorded in the Zuari estuary but the maximum counts (25700/m(3)) were obtained in the Mandovi estuary. Crustaceans particularly copepods predominated (54.9 to 70.6%). Invertebrate larvae, luciferid shrimps, cladocerans and chaetognaths were the other common zooplankton groups. Diustribution and abundance of majority of constituent groups and species were influenced by various hydrographical characteristics of the environment.
