Cosmic Ray Diurnal Anisotropy during Feb.-Mar. 1977

Title: Cosmic Ray Diurnal Anisotropy during Feb.-Mar. 1977
Authors: Kaul, R K
Abstract: From an analysis of the Tokyo (Itabashi) and Gulmarg cosmic ray neutron monitor data, it is shown that cosmic ray diurnal anisotropy has not exhibited any anomalous features during the period Feb.-Mar. 1977. The low value of mean monthly diurnal amplitude and a shift in the diurnal phase towards morning hours observed during this period at a low threshold rigidity monitor may be accounted for in terms of the effects due to three Forbush decreases that occurred during this period.

Title: Beam Cyclotron Instability in the Magnetopause-Boundary Layer Region
Authors: Revathy, P
Abstract: The possibility of beam cyclotron instability in the magnetopause-boundary layer region as a source for the observed fluctuations in the kHz range in the electric field is examined. The resulting anomalous resistivity due to this instability has also been calculated.

Phase Variability of Sq(H)& the Ionospheric Equatorial Anomaly

Title: Phase Variability of Sq(H)& the Ionospheric Equatorial Anomaly
Authors: Sastri, J Hanumath
Abstract: A study is made of the behaviour of the equatorial ionization anomaly in the Indian region on days with an abnormal Sq(H) phase limited to the electrojet belt. The anomaly is found to disappear or reduce in strength quite consistently within about 2 hr of the onset of complete or partial counter-electrojet conditions, responsible for the shift of the Sq(H) phase from the normal time interval. Further, the remarkably poor development of the anomaly in the afternoon period in the Indian region as compared to that in the East Asian region has been shown to occur only on days with an abnormal Sq(H) phase in the Indian equatorial region. These results lend further support to the view that the occurrence of an abnormal Sq(H) phase at electrojet locations is closely associated with perturbations in the electrojet electric field.

Authors: Sastri, J Hanumath; Ramesh, K B
Abstract: Evidence is presented to show that the longitudinal extent of the forenoon bite-out in foF2at low geomagnetic latitudes can sometimes be very narrow, and that marked differences in the extent of development of the forenoon bite-out can occasionally occur at locations separated in longitude by about 3 hr.
