<title>Petroleum hydrocarbons in intertidal ecosystem along the Bombay coast</title>

<description>Title: Petroleum hydrocarbons in intertidal ecosystem along the Bombay coast
Authors: Ingole, S A; Kadam, A N; Mayadeo, M S; Dhadke, P M
Abstract: Petroleum hydrocarbon content in intertidal sediment and water samples collected at Madh, Worli and Colaba were in the ranges of 5.1-7, 5.8-7.4, 2.9-10.3 mu g.g(-1), wet wt and N.D.-18.5, N.D.-93.5, N.D.-5.8 mu g.l(-1) respectively. The concentrations in sediment were negligible and uniform. The contamination was less in seawater during September 1991 while high levels of 57.4 and 93.5 mu g.l(-1) were observed in seawater samples from Worli during December 1990 and May 1991 respectively. The high level of petroleum hydrocarbons (153.8 mu g.l(-1)) in water sample collected near an outfall indicated that the intertidal ecosystem of Worli might be contaminated by the effluent discharges from the onshore industrial unit.

<title>Seasonal variations of some metals in bivalve mollusk Sunetta scripta from the Cochin coastal waters</title>
    <link>http://nopr.niscpr.res.in/handle/123456789/37286</link>
<description>Title: Seasonal variations of some metals in bivalve mollusk Sunetta scripta from the Cochin coastal waters
Authors: Pillai, V K; Valsala, K K
Abstract: Bivalve mollusc Sunetta scripta is abundant in the inshore waters of Cochin and is a suitable indicator species of metal pollution. The metal load in the bivalve showed an increase during the monsoon season indicating the apparent influence of river run off and reduction in salinity in the seasonality of metal uptake. In the case of copper, the smaller individuals recorded relatively higher load than that of larger ones.

<title>Trypsin activity as a function of variation in shrimp Penaeus-indicus (Crustacea Arthropoda)</title>

<description>Title: Trypsin activity as a function of variation in shrimp Penaeus-indicus (Crustacea Arthropoda)
Authors: Sridhar, Manpal; Nair, Rekha J; Sridhar, N
Abstract: The effect of varying ration size on trypsin activity was evaluated in postlarvae, juvenile and adult P. indicus maintained on a commercial pelleted feed. Total trypsin activity reported as mu m p-nitroanilide produced/minute/g tissue was lower (4.23-5.68 mu m) in postlarvae in comparison to juvenile (7.24-8.92 mu m) and adult (10.23-12.24 mu m) animals. Highest activity was detected at 12%, 8-12% and 4-6% in postlarvae, juveniles and adult P. indicus respectively which were the optimum ration sizes, while lowest activity was obtained in the starved animals. Specific activity however exhibited no significant variation with regard to ration size and starvation (P &gt; 0.05).

<description>Title: Growth, mortality and yield per recruit of threadfin bream Nemipterus japonicus (Bloch) off Bombay
Authors: Chakraborty, Sushant Kumar
Abstract: The VBGF parameters in lenth for this species were estimated as L infinity = 356 mm, K = 0.75576 per year and t(0)= -0.0335825 y. This speics grows to 193, 281 and 322 mm at the end of I-III years of its life. Total, natural and fishing mortality were calculated as 3.58, 1.55 and 2.03 respectively. The exploitation rate and ratios were 0.54 and 0.56 respectively. Total and standing stocks were estimated as 3047 and 810 tonnes as compared to the present yield of 1645 tonnes.
