Title: Effect of sodium chloride on electrophoretic patterns of adductor muscle proteins of oysters Crassostrea gryphoides, C. cucullata and C. crenulifera
Authors: Mujumdar, V S; Durve, V S
Abstract: Effect of different saline concentrations (0.04, 0.08, 0.095, 1.5 and 2.%) on the degree of resolution and banding patterns of adductor muscle proteins of oysters Crassostrea species was studied. Saline solution of 0.095% was found to be the ideal extraction medium giving the maximum number of bands and the highest resolution of proteins.

Title: Effect of copper on juvenile Penaeus indicus H. Milne Edwards
Authors: Carmel, C L Mary; Nambisan, P N K; Damodaran, R
Abstract: Toxicity of copper to juveniles of a commercially improtant prawn P. indicus was studied under different salinity regimes. Copper was extremely toxic to the animals and the toxic effect was enhanced by low salinities especially in larger size groups.

Effects of heavy metals on byssogenesis Perna viridis (Linn.)

Title: Effects of heavy metals on byssogenesis Perna viridis (Linn.)
Authors: Mathew, R; Menon, N R
Abstract: Effect of Cu, Ag and Zn on byssogenesis in Perna viridis has been evaluated following static bioassay techniques, and the rate of byssus thread production estimated. Effective concentrations resulting in 50% (EC50) reduction of thread production are 0.02, 0.025 and 0.4 x 10-6 for Ag, Cu and Zn respectively. Combined effects of Ag and Cu on byssogenesis proved to be less than the additive (-0.6) effect.

Title: Annual reproductive cycle of the marine pulmonate, Onchidium verruculatum (Cuvier) and its control by environmental factors
Authors: Deshpande, U D; Nagabhushanam, R
Abstract: Annual reproductive cycle of the proteandric hermaphrodite marine pulmonate, Onchidium verruculatum has been studied with seasonal changes in gonad and accessory sex organ indices and histology of the gonad. O. verruculatum breeds during December to March. Through the development is protendric it becomes simultaneous hermaphrodite during the reproductive peak. Life span of O. verruculatum seems to be 1 year and hence the population exhibits asynchrony in the reproductive status during the postbreeding season. In July to September, slugs with the mature male phase reproductive system are abundant in the population. At the same time older slugs exhibit degeneration of all the sexual cells.Increase in the photoperiod stimulates male maturation whereas increase in temperature during summer terminates the breeding season.
