Authors: Pramanik, Kausikisankar; Ghosh, Prasanta; Chakravorty, Animesh
Abstract: The title complex has been synthesized in excellent yield by oxidizing mer-[OSBr3(SMe2)3] with excess bromine in benzene at room temperature. Its geometry is characterized by X-ray crystallography. The OsIV/Oslll reduction potential is 0.45 V vs. SCE.

Kirkwood-Buff parameters for the binary mixtures and determination of partial structure factor in the long wavelength limit

Title: Kirkwood-Buff parameters for the binary mixtures and determination of partial structure factor in the long wavelength limit
Authors: Guha, A; Ghosh, N K
Abstract: Kirkwood-Buff parameters for some toluene containing binary mixtures have been calculated with the help of thermodynamic quantities like partial molar volume, isothermal compressibility, etc. These parameters are used to show that spatial correlations of like molecules are preferred over correlations of unlike molecules and vice-versa in the mixtures. The results are compared with the help of partial structure factors determined primarily by the non-zero interaction between the components in the mixture and found to be satisfactory. Partial molar volumes and isothermal compressibilities have been calculated from the hard sphere mixture theory.

Title: Twisted intramolecular charge transfer of <em>p</em>-N,N- dimethylamino-benzaldehyde in cyclodextrin environments
Authors: Kundu, Santi; Bera, Subhas Chandra; Chattopadhyay, Nitin
Abstract: Twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) of <em>p</em>-N.N- dimethylaminobenzaldehyde (DMABA) has been studied in different aqueous cyclodextrin (&alpha;-. &beta;- and &upsih;-) environments. The tluorophore forms 1:1 complexes with all the three cyclodextrins (CD). The TICT emission is extremely weak in pure water but it is enhanced as the probe is encapsulated within the cyclodextrin cavities. The relative enhancement of the emission from the TICT species to the locally excited (LE) species is maximum in the &alpha;-CD environment and minimum in the &upsih;-CD environment. This differential enhancement of the two emission bands in different aqueous CD solutions has been explained on the basis of the polarity factor. It has been suggested that the polarity of the microenvironment is the principal controlling factor for the TICT process.
