Authors: Karna, Subodha K.; Manna, R. K.; Panda, D.; Mukherjee, M.; Suresh, V. R.; Raut, A.; Mukhopadhyay, M. K.
Abstract: The present study deals with the first record of Trachicephalus uranoscopus and its morphological descriptions from Chilika lagoon, Odisha coast of India. The species (T. uranoscopus) as well as the family (Synanceiidae) are new additions to the ichthyofaunal diversity of the lagoon.

First record of valid species of torpedo electric ray, Torpedo polleni (Bleeker, 1865) (Torpediniformes: Torpedinidae) from Indian waters

Title: First record of valid species of torpedo electric ray, Torpedo polleni (Bleeker, 1865) (Torpediniformes: Torpedinidae) from Indian waters
Authors: Ravali, V.; Deepti, V.A. Iswarya; Jha, Sneha; Sujatha, K.
Abstract: A species of torpedo electric ray, Torpedo polleni (Bleeker, 1865) has been reported for the first time from Indian waters. Six specimens of T. polleni measuring 147-397 mm TL were collected from shrimp trawl by-catches at Visakhapatnam, central eastern coast of India. The present paper provides description and comparison of morphometric data of T. polleni with closely resembling species of genus Torpedo thus helping in clearing taxonomic ambiguities. The present study suggests that T. polleni (Bleeker, 1865) with 6‑8 knob-like papillae on the posterior margin of spiracle, the central papilla being larger, distance between eye and spiracle less than eye diameter, nasal curtain short and wide, its length more than half the length of inter narial width, first dorsal fin originating entirely above the pelvic fin base and base ending little beyond the pelvic fin, dorsal surface showing ornate appearance with close set of brownish-black spots, few spots very closely set or joined together forming vermiculations and dark brown lines is a valid species.

Title: New report of Melithaea delicata Hickson, 1905 (subclass: octocorallia) from Little Andaman Island, India
Authors: Kumar, J. S. Yogesh; Geetha, S.; Raghunathan, C.; Sornaraj, R.
Abstract: Melithaea octocoral (Family Melithaeidae) are represented by 15 species in Indian waters and 13 species were reported from Andaman and Nicobar Island. Melithaea delicata is reported herein as a new distributional record in Indian waters, from Little Andaman Island. This species is identified by morphological and sclerite structures and characterised by club-shaped sclerites of the calyx, pointed needle shape sclerites of the collaret; spindles shaped in the calyx and coenenchyme. Updated distribution details of all 15 Melithaea species in Indian waters are provided.

Photo-identification of Dugongs in Marsa Alam and Wadi El Gemal National Park, Egypt

Title: Photo-identification of Dugongs in Marsa Alam and Wadi El Gemal National Park, Egypt
Authors: Shawky, Ahmed M.; Sallam, Wafaa S.; Alwany, Magdy A.; Mohammad, Deyaaedin A.; Mohamed, Saad Z.
Abstract: Using photo-identification techniques, 30 dugongs were recorded at the southern Egyptian Red Sea coast between December 2015 and October 2017, 16 at Marsa Alam and 14 at Wadi El Gemal National Park (WGNP). Males were recorded seven times more frequently than females and calves were also recorded. A Photo ID catalogue was prepared for the dugongs with records of their occurrence among sites. We confirmed the presence of particular dugong specific sites. Long- and short-distance movements within the study sites were recorded for eight different dugongs. This is the first study to document the number of dugongs in inshore areas of the Egyptian Red Sea coast. Further studies are recommended for offshore sites in WGNP for better documentation of this group of animals.
