    <title>Extraction and processing of Indian Okra fibre for Industrial bio-packaging</title>

    <description>Title: Extraction and processing of Indian Okra fibre for Industrial bio-packaging
Authors: Mishra, L; Saikia, M; Gogoi, N; Bhuyan, S; Basu, G
Abstract: An effortless fibre extraction process (7 days water retting with urea) and industrial usage of the crop has been explored.&#xD;
The characterization study carried out on okra fibres confirms them as potent as higher grade jute on account of their similar&#xD;
composition, morphology and properties, which makes them one of the best fibres for heavy duty bio-packaging and&#xD;
industrial textile uses. Spinning trial proves its fitness for bulk processing in commercial scale machines of jute, both in&#xD;
elementarily (pure) and blends. Commercial scale trial of okra:jute blend (25:75) spun threads shows its good spinning&#xD;
performance and endurance (strain 2.9%; tenacity 12.4 cN/tex; modulus 592.3 cN/tex). The strength of the jute: okra cloth&#xD;
and the seam strength are found well within the standard specifications for manufacturing standard bio-packing of 50 kg for&#xD;
food grains. Thus, the use of okra agro residues not only results in cleaner post-harvest practices, but also adds to&#xD;
sustainability of the modern technologies and progressive farmers.

    <title>Optimisation of fibre denier specific carding parameters to modulate the structure of needle-punched nonwoven</title>

    <description>Title: Optimisation of fibre denier specific carding parameters to modulate the structure of needle-punched nonwoven
Authors: Dixit, Priyal; Ishtiaque, S M
Abstract: Fibre denier specific carding parameters, such as feeder speed, cylinder speed and doffer speed, have been optimised to modulate the structure of needle-punched nonwoven. Polyester fibres of 3 denier, 4 denier and 6 denier are used to prepare nonwoven fabrics at different carding parameters. Box Behnken three factors three levels factorial design is used to prepare the nonwoven samples. Fibre orientation is measured with the help of Lindsley’s and image analysis techniques in terms of indices, like proportion of curved fibre ends, coefficient of relative fibre parallelisation and anisotropy of fibre inclination angle respectively. A non-linear regression technique has been developed to establish a relationship between tortuosity factor and measured values of fibre diameter, proportion of curved fibre ends, coefficient of relative fibre parallelisation, anisotropy of fibre inclination angle and mean flow pore size. The findings show the significance of carding parameters to modulate the orientation of fibres in carded web to enhance the functional properties of needle-punched nonwoven.

    <title>Mechanical performances of double layer braided polyester sutures intended for orthopedic surgery</title>

    <description>Title: Mechanical performances of double layer braided polyester sutures intended for orthopedic surgery
Authors: Debbabi, Faten; Abdessalem, Saber Ben
Abstract: The effect of braid composition on mechanical performances of double layer braided sutures has been investigated. Double-layer braided polyester sutures have been studied in terms of suture strength, smoothness, flexibility, and knot performances. The performances deduced from the straight and the knot pull out test of manufactured sutures have been given and analysed in this study. It is observed that the excessive addition of braided core structure shows a weak influence on deformation, rigidity and UTS of the double layer suture. However, the presence of braided core leads to obtain non-compact sutures with good knot security. This is explained by the fact that the needed load for knot untying of sutures with braided core is higher than that of suture without braided core. The most important implication of these findings is that knot suture exhibits uniform behaviour and becomes more stable by adding braided core.
