A sensitive colorimetric method for determination of chloroform

Title: A sensitive colorimetric method for determination of chloroform
Authors: Pillai, Ajai K; Rastogi, Rachana; Gupta, V K
Abstract: <span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:
115%;font-family:" times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-font-family:"times="" roman";="" mso-ansi-language:en-in;mso-fareast-language:en-in;mso-bidi-language:hi"="" lang="EN-IN">A
sensitive colorimetric method for determination of chloroform in ppm level is
described, which is based on modification of Fujiwara reaction i.e. colour
development on treatment with pyridine and sodium hydroxide and discharging the
colour with acetic acid and followed by addition of p-amino acetophenone
reagent. The purple red colour formed has an absorpti on maximum at 520nm.
Beer's law is obeyed in the range of 1.0 -10μg (0.1 to 1.0 ppm) of chloroform
per 10mL of solution. The method is found to be free from interference of
various copollutants. The sensitivity of the conventional Fujiwara procedure is
increased after this modification. The method has been successfully applied for
the determination of chloroform in various environmental and biological samples.

process for epoxidation of unsaturated compounds and polymers under high
pressure was described. The epoxidized products were characterized by FTIR and 1H
NMR spectroscopy and analyzed for their epoxy yield and iodine value. The
preliminary results show that high epoxy yield (~80 %) was obtained for oils
and rubbers under high pressure.

Abstract: <span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:

as an oxidizing agent and the polymer was obtained in good yield. The detailed
electrochemical studies have been performed in the presence of QFC in aqueous
and non-aqueous media. TG analysis exhibited that the synthesized polymers have
relatively high thermal stability. Conductivity of the polymers was found in
the range of 10-9 to 10-3 Scm-1 and the
magnetic susceptibility measurement show the paramagnetic behaviour. The study also
include the structural elucidation and external morphological properties of the
synthesized polymers.

Flocculation of iron ore slimes from Joda and Kiriburu mines

Title: Flocculation of iron ore slimes from Joda and Kiriburu mines
Authors: Bhagat, Ram Pravesh; Dey, Shobhana
Abstract: <span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:
115%;font-family:" times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-font-family:"times="" roman";="" mso-ansi-language:en-in;mso-fareast-language:en-in;mso-bidi-language:hi"="" lang="EN-IN">The
present paper reports the flocculation of iron ore slimes from Joda mines of
TISCO and Kiriburu mines of SAIL situated in the west Singhbhum district of
Bihar, India. These two slimes had marginal difference in density. The presence
of clay minerals was more in case of Joda slimes. The settling rate following
flocculation was measured as function of time. The effect of pulp density and
flocculant dose at neutral pH was
studied in the tests. The sedimentation rate increases with increasing
flocculant dose up to a certain limiting value after which the improvement is
marginal. The pulp density and flocculant dose have considerable effect on the settling
rate. Joda slimes has poorer settling characteristics in comparison with
Kiriburu slimes. The effect of pulp density and minerals present in these
slimes are apparent from these observations.
