Biopolishing of different varieties of tasar silk

Title: Biopolishing of different varieties of tasar silk
Authors: Gulrajani, M L; Agarwal, Shalini; Agarwal, Ritu
Abstract: <span style="font-size:14.0pt;line-height:
115%;font-family:" times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-font-family:"times="" roman";="" color:black;mso-ansi-language:en-in;mso-fareast-language:en-in;mso-bidi-language:="" hi"="" lang="EN-IN">Two proteases, viz. Degummase and Protease ‘A’ Amano 2, were used for
biopolishing different varieties of bleached and semi-bleached tasar silk
fabrics. Gum was completely removed by enzyme treatment in bleached tasar silk
samples, whereas some gum was left on semi-bleached and unbleached samples.
Improvement in lustre was observed in case of all the varieties of tasar silk
fabrics due to the cleaning of the fibre surface by the enzyme. Degummase gave
a higher weight loss with all the varieties of tasar silk and is more effective
than Protease ‘A’ Amano 2.</span>

Theoretical studies on shuttle checking: Part II—Shuttle checking by swell

Title: Theoretical studies on shuttle checking: Part II—Shuttle checking by swell
Authors: Hari, P K; Gupta, K N; Behera, B K; Joshi, S G
Abstract: <span style="font-size:14.0pt;line-height:
115%;font-family:" times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-font-family:"times="" roman";="" color:black;mso-ansi-language:en-in;mso-fareast-language:en-in;mso-bidi-language:="" hi"="" lang="EN-IN">Computer simulation for mathematical model of a swell has been done and the
reduction in the shuttle velocity by impact with swell is predicted in terms of
impactal and frictional braking. Reduction of 40% in shuttle speed by swell has
been obtained and it is mainly due to impacts. The moment of inertia of swell
is the most important variable and an optimum value of this parameter is
required for maximum shuttle speed reduction.</span>

A simple device to measure the electric charges accumulating on textile fabrics

Title: A simple device to measure the electric charges accumulating on textile fabrics
Authors: Parachuru, Lavanya
Abstract: A simple
device to detect and measure the electric charges accumulating on textile fabrics is
described. The device measures the magnitude of the charge without touching the
charged fabric and functions similar to an electroscope.

with a group of apparel fabrics have demonstrated the feasibility of the
device.</span>

Studies on combined flame-retardant and water-repellent treatments on cotton drill fabric

Title: Studies on combined flame-retardant and water-repellent treatments on cotton drill fabric
Authors: Shekar, R Indu; Yadav, Ashok; Kasturiya, Nishkam; Raj, Hans
Abstract: Bleached
cotton drill fabric was treated with phosphorus-based flame retardant followed
by water and oil repellents to achieve flame-retardant, water-repellent and
oil-repellent properties for critical applications such as nuclear biological

chemical
protective suits. The results indicate that by an effective combination of
above finishing agents, satisfactory performance could be achieved, although it
is very difficult to understand the nature of reaction that takes place between
a

<span style="font-size:14.0pt;line-height:115%;font-family:" times="" new="" roman";="" mso-fareast-font-family:"times="" roman";color:black;mso-ansi-language:en-in;="" mso-fareast-language:en-in;mso-bidi-language:hi"="" lang="EN-IN">phosphorus-based flame
retardant and the fluorocarbon-based water repellant. The treated fabrics were
evaluated for flammability, water repellency and oil repellency. The effect of
different add-on levels on important physical propert ies was also studied. The
flame-retardant behaviour was persued through thermal studies. The flame-
retardant and water-repellent treated fabric with a total add-on level of 17.7%
gave satisfactory results in terms of functional and physical properties.</span>
