      <title>Estimation of Sodium Content of Various Antacid Preparations by Flame Photometry</title>
      <link>http://nopr.niscpr.res.in/handle/123456789/17895</link>
      <description>Title: Estimation of Sodium Content of Various Antacid Preparations by Flame Photometry
Authors: Manna, V; Samanta, A; Pal, D K; Si, A S; Bandopadhyay, S
Abstract: Now-a-days&#xD;
antacid formulations are extensively used as over the counter product.&#xD;
Aluminium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide which are used industrially for the&#xD;
preparation of antacid, generally impart some parts of sodium ion. This sodium&#xD;
ion is particularly harmful to cardiac and hypertensive patients. In the present&#xD;
study, attempt has been made to determine the sodium content of various widely&#xD;
marketed anatacid products. Results suggest that care must be taken during the&#xD;
manufacturing of this hydroxide and certain specifications are needed by the&#xD;
monographs regarding the sodium content&#xD;
&#xD;
of antacid&#xD;
preparations.

      <title>Development and Characterization of Release Profile of Nifedipine as an Effective Controlled Release System</title>
      <link>http://nopr.niscpr.res.in/handle/123456789/17894</link>
      <description>Title: Development and Characterization of Release Profile of Nifedipine as an Effective Controlled Release System
Authors: Mallick, S; Gupta, B K; Ghosal, S K
Abstract: To develop&#xD;
an effective controlled drug release system, preparation of microcapsule formulation&#xD;
of nifedipine coated with ethylcellulose, eudragit RS and eudragit RL is reported.&#xD;
Coacervation and phase separation (CPS) technique involving non-aqueous manufacturing&#xD;
vehicles is utilized for the encapsulation of nifedipine in different core-coat&#xD;
ratios without applying high temperature. It is observed that microcapsules coated&#xD;
with eudragit RL exhibit maximum encapsulation efficiency. Drug release kinetics&#xD;
from all the sponge like structured microcapsules follow a matrix controlled mechanism&#xD;
of Higuchi Model rather than the same based on the diffusion process of monoexponential&#xD;
model of the first order. The release rate, dissolultion efficiency and permeabil&#xD;
ity constant could be controlled by the type and concentration of the polymer loading.&#xD;
Controlled release microcapsules produced by the present method can provide characteristic&#xD;
advantages over conventional method of preparing a reservoir device of drug, such&#xD;
as fluid-bed coating or coating of beads.

      <title>Heat Stability of Lipoxygenase and Peroxidase During Blanching of Vegetables</title>
      <link>http://nopr.niscpr.res.in/handle/123456789/17893</link>
      <description>Title: Heat Stability of Lipoxygenase and Peroxidase During Blanching of Vegetables
Authors: Kaur, Charanjit; Kumar, Sushil; Kapoor, Harish C
Abstract: French beans,&#xD;
carrots, peas, and bitter-gourd were blanched conventionally and in microwave for&#xD;
different durations. Lipoxygenase and peroxidase were taken as indicator enzymes&#xD;
to test the adequacy of blanching. Lipoxygenase was found to be more heat stable&#xD;
than peroxidase. Quality retention of processed vegetables was found to be highest&#xD;
in microwave blanched products. Results suggest that the use of peroxidase is to&#xD;
be continued as indicator enzyme, instead of lipoxygenase, as suggested by some&#xD;
recent research.
