Computer-controlled Ultrasonic Hyperthermia System for Cancer Therapy

Title: Computer-controlled Ultrasonic Hyperthermia System for Cancer Therapy
Authors: Singh, V R
Abstract: Cancer is serious disease and its proper treatment is required at proper stage. There are several techniques namely RF (radiofrequency), microwave, nuclear and chemotherapy which are currently used, but such techniques have their own limitations and proper treatment is not assured. Focused ultrasound is used to raise the local temperature in the tumour or diseased cell for its therapeutic treatment. A computer controlled ultrasonic hyperthermia system is developed for the treatment of, e.g., deep seated tumours. Design, development and applications of the proposed system are described.

Authors: Mukhopadhyay, Sunita; Nandi, B
Abstract: <span style="font-size:14.0pt;line-height:

nitrogen source and other nutrients) factors influencing cellulase production by
<i>Trichoderma reesei </i>ATCC 26921 were studied during its growth in Mandels and
Andreotti medium containing water hyacinth biomass as the major carbon source. Optimum
pH, temperature and substrate concentration were found to be 4.8, 31 ± 1°C and
4 per cent (w/v) milled water hyacinth, respectively, for the maximum production
of FPase, CMcase, and β-glucosidase. Among the different nitrogen sources tested,
ammonium sulphate was found to be the best for cellulase production. In an
attempt to simplify the composition of the basal medium, all other nutrients except
(NH4)2SO4 , KH2P O4 ,
yeast-extract and Tween-80 were omitted from the medium. This did not reduce
much the yield of cellulase. Addition of poultry manure further increased the cellulase
production.</span>

Authors: Dhawan, Sunil K
Abstract: <span style="font-size:14.0pt;line-height:
115%;font-family:" times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-font-family:"times="" roman";="" color:black;mso-ansi-language:en-in;mso-fareast-language:en-in;mso-bidi-language:="" hi"="" lang="EN-IN">This study was undertaken in a CSIR research institute to examine the degree
of satisfaction and dissatisfaction among research scientists on issues related
to their job such as : goal setting, future prospects, and learning opportunities.
The results indicated that the sample was satisfied with work being meaningful and
important and also they enjoy their scientific work. However, they showed unhappiness
for the factors like mutual support and help among colleagues and appreciation of
their good work. The study highlights that there exist 3 - Factor theory with regards
to job satisfaction.</span>

The Plant Tissue Culture Scene in India : [II] Financial Considerations for Technology Sustainability*

Title: The Plant Tissue Culture Scene in India : [II] Financial Considerations for Technology Sustainability*
Authors: Bapat, S A; Iqbal, S H
Abstract: As a part of
our ongoing study on the various interactions of the plant tissue culture (PTC)
industry and as a part of a project (under CSIR Emeritus Scientist Scheme), on
"Study and Development of Models for Transfer of Tissue Culture Technologies",
the influence of financial policies on the PTC industry has been investigated.
We have interacted with several financial managers as well as industry personnel,
in order to identify the barriers as well as possible solutions in order to overcome
the limiting factors. This communication is a brief compilation of the views
expressed by these two groups. The PERT (Project Evaluation and Review Techniques)
network analysis for a test case of establishment of a micro propagation project
further illustrates the influence of the financial aspects of the PTC industry.
The implications of these analyses may provide guidelines in formulating effective
mechanisms for the sustenance of the industry.
