Title: Industrial applications of near infra-red spectroscopy: Quality evaluation of naphtha feed for olefin production
Authors: Pandey, G C; Kumar, Ajay; Garg, R K
Abstract: In an attempt
to develop an alternative, fast, simple and direct method for the measurements of
various properties of naphtha, we report a method based on near infra-red (NIR)
spectroscopy. The required parameters
for quality evaluation of such feed include mainly aromatics, naphthenes
(C6-, i.e., components having carbon number 6 and below and C7+,
i.e., those with carbon number 7 and above), paraffins (C6<i>- </i>and
C7+) and methylcyclohexane. The

results obtained
by the IR method show an excellent agreement with the currently accepted standard
gas chromatography (GC) method.

Title: Spectrophotometric method for the determination of yttrium(III) and its application to the analysis of the superconductor, YBa2CU3Oy
Authors: Sawant, Shilpa D; Sundaresan, R; Mathur, P K
Abstract: A spectrophotometric
procedure for the determination of yttrium(III) using Arsenazo-I is described (λmax
= 570 nm). The calibration curve is linear in the concentration range of 0-4×10-6
<i>M</i> (0-356 ngml-1). The lowest amount of ytt rium(III) that can
be determined is 22 ngml-1. The procedure has been applied for the determination
of yttrium(III) in the superconductor, YBa2CU3Oy

(y = 6.5-6.9),
with good results.

Synthesis and characterization of hydroxycarboxylato complexes of nickel(II)

Title: Synthesis and characterization of hydroxycarboxylato complexes of nickel(II)
Authors: Baranwal, B P; Das, S S; Singh, Poonam; Gupta, Tarkeshwar
Abstract: Acetate
groups of anhydrous nickel(II) acetate have been substituted with some higher
carboxylic acids and hydroxycarboxylic acids in toluene under reflux and the
products Ni(OOCR)(OOCR'), Ni(OOCR) (OOCR") and Ni(OOCR)(OOCR"') [where
R=C<sub>13</sub>H<sub>27</sub>, C<sub>17</sub>H<sub>35</sub> or C<sub>21</sub>H<sub>43</sub>
and R'=C6H4OH,

Rʹʹ = C<sub>6</sub>H<sub>5</sub>CH(OH) and
R'" = (C<sub>6</sub>H<sub>5</sub>)<sub>2</sub>C(OH)] obtained have been characterized
by elemental analyses, electronic and IR spectra and conductivity measurements.
An octahedral environment around nickel(II) ion is suggested and the molecular
weight determinations confirm the dinuclear nature of these complexes.

Title: Synthesis and characterisation of dicopper(II) complexes with N,N,N',N',N"-pentakis(benzimidazol-2-yl methyl) diethylenetriamine
Authors: Nohria, Lata; Gupta, Manisha; Mathur, Pavan
Abstract: Dicopper (II)
complexes with an octadentate chelating ligand

N,N,N',N',N"-pentakis(benzimidazol-2-yl
methyl) diethylenetriamine

[DTPB] have
been synthesized and characterised. Cyclic voltammetric studies reveal the existence
of two distinct quasireversible couples, a feature supporting the presence of two
copper (II) ions in the binucleating ligand cavity. Low temperature X-band EPR studies
provide support for a weak magnetic

exchange interaction
between the two copper (II) ions via the ligand bridge. Room temperature magnetic
moment data also support the above formulation.
