Tribology of Textile Materials

Title: Tribology of Textile Materials
Authors: Ramkumar, S S
Abstract: <span style="font-size:
12.0pt;font-family:" times="" new="" roman";mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">Recently, there has
been an upsurge in research interests on the frictional properties of materials.
This has been partly due to the availability of tools to understand

<span style="font-size:
12.0pt;font-family:" times="" new="" roman";mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">the structure and
properties of materials at micro and nano levels1. However, in the
case of textile materials, currently there is a renewed interest at the macro
level due to its research potential and lack of understanding at this level.
The main objective of this brief communication is to clearly understand the method
and the unit to characterize the friction al properties of textiles.

Authors: Beheraa, B K; Shakyawar, D B
Abstract: <span style="font-size:
12.0pt;font-family:" times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-font-family:fd1442399-identity-h;="" mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">An attempt has been made to review the work done so
far in understanding the influence of wool fibre, yam and fabric structures and
their properties on low-stress mechanical properties and hand value of fabric.
The role of finishing treatments and application of softeners on low-stress
mechanical properties has also been reviewed. Finally, the need of establishing

suggested.

Effect of oxygen plasma on woollen fabric properties

Title: Effect of oxygen plasma on woollen fabric properties
Authors: Shekar, R Indu; Bajpai, S K
Abstract: Woollen fabric was subjected to oxygen
plasma treatment separately at 50W and 100W power and low pressure using glow discharge.
The treated samples were tested for shrinkage, weight loss and wicking and dyed
with Nylomine Acid Red B-5B. The colour fastness and perspiration tests were
also carried out. The plasma-treated samples exhibited excellent wicking
properties and significantly reduced shrinkage. The sample treated at higher power
settings showed more weight loss. The dyed samples showed satisfactory fastness
properties.

Title: Effect of pressure between roller and knife edge on the quality of double roller ginned cottons
Authors: Jadhav, S B; Vancheswaran, S; Vizia, N C
Abstract: A double roller gin was set to work at
three different pressures (67, 133 and 200 kg) between the rollers and the fixed
knife edges to process ten varieties of cotton, and the effect of pressure on various
quality parameters of ginned lint studied. It is observed that the higher pressures
decrease the average fibre length and increase the ginning percentage, short fibre

content, nep count and seed coat fragments.
