Title: An efficient improved synthesis of carvedilol, via 2-(2-methoxyphenoxy)ethyl 4-methylbenzenesulfonate intermediate
Authors: Reddy, K Tatendra; Kumar, K Suneel; Omprakash, G; Dubey, P K
Abstract: A facile
synthesis of Carvedilol via a key
2-(2-methoxy-phenoxy)ethyl
4-methylbenzenesulfonate intermediate is described and this approach
avoids the formation of bis side product (impurity-B) due to weak basic conditions and also operationally suitable for
industrial application.

Title: Laser-induced, one-step synthesis of cyclodextrin carboxylic acids and their esters
Authors: Jankowski, Christopher K; Pelletier, Andre; Aychet, Nicolas; Hocquelet, Celine; Lacour, Jean-Luc; Bresson, Carole
Abstract: α- and
β-Cyclodextrin 6-azides (or 6A,6D-diazide) when subjected to laser irradiation
followed by mild hydrolysis, lead, via
the aldehyde, to small yields of corresponding acids, or in presence of alcohol
to methyl or ethyl esters. The structures of compounds obtained have been
identified using ESI mass and NMR spectroscopy.

Title: Carbodiimide mediated synthesis of some novel 4-thiazolidinones and 2,4-disubstituted thiazoles bearing N-methyl tetrahydrocarbazole moiety
Authors: Gautam, Deepika; Chaudhary, R P
Abstract: 2,3-Dihydro-1H-carbazol-4(9H)-one, obtained from oxidation of
tetrahydrocarbazole with 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyanobenzoquinone (DDQ), on reaction with N,N-dimethylformamide
dimethyl acetal (DMF-DMA) affords 9-methyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-carbazol-4(9H)-one 3. The thiosemicarbazone derivative 4 of 9-methyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-carbazol-4(9H)-one on condensation with
α-haloacids in presence of dicyclohexyl carbodiimide (DCC) furnish novel
thiazolidin-4-ones 5 and on grinding
with phenacyl bromides at room temperature produce new thiazole derivatives 6. The structure of all the synthesized
compounds has been established by elemental analysis, IR, NMR and mass spectral
data. X-Ray crystallographic studies of 2,3-dihydro-1H-carbazol-4(9H)-one 2 have been reported.
