Effect of Packaging on Quality and Shelf-life of Osmo-air Dried Apricot

Title: Effect of Packaging on Quality and Shelf-life of Osmo-air Dried Apricot
Authors: Sharma, K D; Kumar, Rajesh; Kaushal, B B Lal
Abstract: Osmotically dehydrated apricot with a
good consumer acceptability were developed and evaluated for their quality in different
packages during storage at 13-28oC. The critical point for the storage
of osmo-air dehydrated apricot was at 60 per cent relative humidity with 12.5 per
cent equilibrium moisture content (EMC) whereas the optimum equilibrium relative

humidity (ERH) was found to be 48 per cent
at 8.51 per cent EM C. The quality of dried fruit deteriorated significantly in
polyethylene and glass jars during storage study of 6 months however, a minimum
change in chemical composition and sensory attributes was observed in laminated
pouches. At the same time laminated pouches were attractive and convenient to

handle which is beneficial for distribution
and from marketing point of view.

Supported Perovskites as Catalysts for CO Oxidation

Title: Supported Perovskites as Catalysts for CO Oxidation
Authors: Chand, Shri; Sharma, A K; Garg, Anurag; Mishra, I M
Abstract: Lanthanum and barium ferrites as well as lanthanum
cobaltate binary oxidic species supported on alumina and zirconia were tested for
their catalytic activity for the CO oxidation reaction. Synthesized perovskite oxides
were supported on alumina or zirconia by dry impregnation. For the same percent
loading of the perovskite (5 .8per cent), LaCoO3 /ZrO2 were
found to be most active in comparison of La-Co-O solids supported on zirconia may
be attributed to better reactivity of Co at B-site in comparison to Fe, homogeneous
and higher dispersion on zirconia in comparison to alumina, ionic oxygen
carrying capacity of zirconia and larger ionic size of Zr4+ ion.

Studies on Anaerobic Digestion of Distillery Waste and Methane Formation

Title: Studies on Anaerobic Digestion of Distillery Waste and Methane Formation
Authors: Prakash, N B
Abstract: Experiments were conducted on a laboratory
scale by anaerobic digestion to treat distillery effluent with special reference
to maximum BOD and COD removal, and for maximum methane formation. The BOD and COD
removal ranged between 85-93 per cent under steady state conditions thereby indicating
that the distillery effluent could be treated by anaerobic process. The bio-kinetic
coefficients were evaluated to study the metabolic performance of the microorganisms.
Maximum methane production was obtained with the use of calcium carbonate.

Water-Based Couplants for General Purpose Use for Ultrasonic NDT Applications

Title: Water-Based Couplants for General Purpose Use for Ultrasonic NDT Applications
Authors: Bindal, V N
Abstract: A study on the newly developed couplant liquid
and gel suitable for ultrasonic NDT inspection is reported. Results of the measurements
of various physical parameters like viscosity, density, ultrasonic velocity, etc.
which have direct influence on acoustic coupling, are reported. With the help of
the measured ultrasonic velocity and the acoustic impedance of the newly developed
couplants, the results have been discussed alongwith theoretical considerations.
It is indicated that the newly developed couplants have better transmission coefficient
and give 3 dB better coupling, as compared to the conventionally used liquids.
These couplants offer many other advantages and have potential applications in
industry.
