Title: The need for catalogue use studies in Indian libraries Authors: Gandhi, T M K Abstract: The importance of catalogue use studies, particularly in the context of database development for networking, is discussed. A review of literature on the subject reveals that most of the studies are conducted in western countries which may be grouped in three categories viz., i) user studies, ii) studies relating to search failures, and iii) experiments with methodological aspects. Title: Citation analysis of doctoral dissertations in Chemistry Authors: Mubeen, M A Abstract: Citations of 22 doctoral dissertations in chemistry submitted to Mangalore University since its inception were analyzed to study the information use pattern of researchers. The study has identified 60 core journals, out of total 418 journals, referred to by the researchers. The application of Bradford's Law of Scattering to the literature of chemistry reveals an exponential trend when plotted on the graph. The Bradford's multiplier is seen to observe a geometric series pattern over the literature. Page(s): 48-58
