Authors: Patel, M P; Modi, B J; Patel, R G; Patel, V S

polyesters has been synthesized by interfacial polycondensation reaction of
terephthaloyl chloride and various bis-azodiols derived from diarylidene
cyclopentanone and diarylidene cyclohexanone by coupling with various
diazotized fast bases. All the coloured polyesters were characterized by
elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, UV-visible spectroscopy, viscometry,
solubility, bleeding test and thermogravimetric analysis. The bis-azodiols were
applied on nylon and polyester fibres and their dyeing performance assessed.
These dyes showed fair to good fastness to light and very good to excellent
fastness to washing, rubbing, perspiration and sublimation.</span>

Authors: Kumar, S Ajith; Cherian, Ajith; Rama, H S; Kansara, S S
Abstract: <span style="font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;
font-family:" calibri","sans-serif";mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-fareast-font-family:="" "times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast;mso-hansi-theme-font:="" minor-latin;mso-bidi-font-family:"times="" roman";mso-ansi-language:en-us;="" mso-fareast-language:en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">Graft copolymerization of
2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) has been carried out on jute using cerie
ammonium nitrate (CAN) as an initiator. The effects of initiator concentration,
temperature, duration of reaction, monomer concentration and acid concentration
have been studied to obtain the optimum conditions for grafting. The maximum
grafting (80%) has been achieved at initiator conc., 0.04 mol/L; monomer conc.,
0.45 mol/L; acid conc., 0.2 mol/L; temperature 40°C; and reaction time 2 h).
The activation energy of graft copolymerization of HEMA onto jute has been
found to be 30 kJ/mol. A suitable mechanism for grafting has also been
proposed.</span>
