Authors: Misra, T; Panda, P; Patel, T; Khuntia, S; Bhat, N V
Abstract: <span style="font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;
font-family:" calibri","sans-serif";mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-fareast-font-family:="" "times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast;mso-hansi-theme-font:="" minor-latin;mso-bidi-font-family:calibri;mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-latin;="" mso-ansi-language:en-us;mso-fareast-language:en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">The
effect of soap solution on the macromolecular parameters of mulberry silk fibre
have been studied using the small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) technique.
Applying the theories of Vonk and Ruland, it is observed that the system comes
under non-ideal two phase system characterized by the continuous variation of
electron density at the' phase boundary. The increase in the value of average
periodicity transverse to the layer on boiling the silk fibre in soap solution
at 9Sec is not significant. This indicates that the fibre is not much affected
by the soap solution.

hysteresis behaviour of enzyme-treated jute and mesta fibres has been studied
and it is observed that when these fibres are treated with a combination of
cellulase, hemicellulase and pectinase enzymes (7:3:2 units/g of fibre), the
moisture retention capacity is increased which, in turn, improves the
spinnability of these fibres.

hydrophilic acrylic fibre containing acrylonitrile terpolymer
(acrylonitrile/methyl acrylate/sodium salt of
2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane-sulphonic acid) and small amount of cellulose
derivative has been developed by conjugate spinning. This fibre has a
rnicroporous structure that renders it highly water retentive with excellent
drying and heat insulation properties. It has all the positive attributes of
acrylic coupled with water imbibition properties of cotton. A comparison of
hydrophilic acrylic fibre towel with cotton towel has also been made.

Title: Syntheses of bistriazinylaminostilbene derivatives and their application on cotton and nylon fibres as fluorescent brighteners
Authors: Modi, B R; Mistry, N V; Shah, M J; Desai, K R
Abstract: <span style="font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;
font-family:" calibri","sans-serif";mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-fareast-font-family:="" "times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast;mso-hansi-theme-font:="" minor-latin;mso-bidi-font-family:calibri;mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-latin;="" mso-ansi-language:en-us;mso-fareast-language:en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">Forty
fluorescent brighteners, 4,4' -bis[(4-p-fluoroanilino/azido-6-arylureidol
arylthioureido-s-triazin-2-yI)aminolstilbene-2,2 -disulphonic acids (V 1-40)
have been prepared by condensing 4,4 '-diaminostilbene 2,2 -disulphonic acid (I)
with two mol of cyanuric chloride (II) followed by reaction with two mol
of p-fluoroaniline/sodium azide and then condensation with two mol of
arylurea/arylthiourea derivatives. The absorption characteristics and fastness
properties of these compounds on cotton and nylon fibres have also been
evaluated. All the compounds show moderate to good fastness to light, washing,
perspiration and chlorine on cotton whereas poor to very good fastness to
light, washing, perspiration and chlorine on nylon. These compounds also show
poor to good sublimation fastness on these fibres and are stable to reducing
agents.
