Title: Effect of Twist and Fibre Denier on Characteristics of Polyester-Viscose Core-spun Yarns
Authors: Tyagi, G K; Ghosh, Amitabh; Girdhar, Praveen; Agarwal, Neeraj
Abstract: <span style="font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;
font-family:" calibri","sans-serif";mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-fareast-font-family:="" "times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast;mso-hansi-theme-font:="" minor-latin;mso-bidi-font-family:"times="" roman";mso-ansi-language:en-us;="" mso-fareast-language:en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">The effect of sheath-fibre
denier and twist on the characteristics of core-spun yarns, with a constant
polyester core, was studied. Core-spun yarns with the same core component but
with finer-denier viscose sheath fibre gave a higher strength and an overall
higher yarn quality index. Alteration of twist did not affect the number of
neps, which however decreased with increase in fibre denier. Thick places
increased with increase in fibre denier. Flex abrasion resistance decreased
with decrease in twist, but was higher for yarns spun with finer-denier sheath
fibre.</span>

Distribution of Fibres in Cross-section of Rotor- and Ring-spun Yarns and Their Strength

Title: Distribution of Fibres in Cross-section of Rotor- and Ring-spun Yarns and Their Strength
Authors: Ishtiaque, S M
Abstract: <span style="font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;
font-family:" calibri","sans-serif";mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-fareast-font-family:="" "times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast;mso-hansi-theme-font:="" minor-latin;mso-bidi-font-family:"times="" roman";mso-ansi-language:en-us;="" mso-fareast-language:en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">The nature of fibre
migration, the number of fibres in yarn cross-section and the factors that
influence the strength of rotor and ring-spun yarns have been studied. Rotor
yarn comprised 15%less fibres in yarn cross-section than the corresponding ring
yarn. Fewer fibres in yarn cross-section in rotor yarn result in lesser yarn
strength. Low values of stress-strain show up the limitation in the spinning of
fine counts on a rotor-spinning machine.</span>

Radial Packing Density of Rotor- and Ring-spun Yarns

Title: Radial Packing Density of Rotor- and Ring-spun Yarns
Authors: Ishtiaque, S M
Abstract: <span style="font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;
font-family:" calibri","sans-serif";mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-fareast-font-family:="" "times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast;mso-hansi-theme-font:="" minor-latin;mso-bidi-font-family:"times="" roman";mso-ansi-language:en-us;="" mso-fareast-language:en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">The radial packing density
of rotor-spun yarn was measured on the basis of the theory reported earlier by
the author [<i>Indian J Text Res</i>, 11 (1986) 26]. The effect of yarn twist
and count on the fibre packing density of rotor-spun yarn in comparison with
that of ring-spun yarn was studied. The packing density of both the yarns over
the yarn cross-section was not uniform and increased with yarn twist. In rotor
yarn it was higher near the yarn axis and less towards the outer surface of
yarn in comparison with that of ring-spun yarn. The packing density of
rotor-spun yarn was less than that of ring-spun yarn, which is one of the
causes of the lesser strength of rotor-spun yarn. For the same material and
twist coefficient, the packing density of coarse yarn was less than that of
finer yarn.</span>

Scanning Electron Microscopic Studies on Jute Yarn: Effect of Twist on Surface Structure

Title: Scanning Electron Microscopic Studies on Jute Yarn: Effect of Twist on Surface Structure
Authors: Ray, P K; Sengupta, P; Das, B K
Abstract: <span style="font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;
font-family:" calibri","sans-serif";mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-fareast-font-family:="" "times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast;mso-hansi-theme-font:="" minor-latin;mso-bidi-font-family:"times="" roman";mso-ansi-language:en-us;="" mso-fareast-language:en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">Scanning electron
microscopic studies of jute yarns of different twists and counts showed that at
low twists, all the filaments in the yarn did not lie in the direction of
twist; as the twist gradually increased, the filaments took up the direction of
the twist and made the yarn structure compact. Although some of the jute
filaments making up the yarn suffered various types of damage during
processing, increased damage like surface peeling, cracks and, in some cases,
complete fracture of surface filaments in the yarn of higher twist took place.
At lower twists the effect of carding on the filaments was predominant, and at
higher twists both carding and twisting resulted in damaging effects on the
filaments.</span>
