Influence of Constructional Parameters on the Tensile Properties of Cotton Fabrics

Mon, 01 Sep 1980 00:00:00 GMT

Title: Influence of Constructional Parameters on the Tensile Properties of Cotton Fabrics Authors: Ganatra, S R; Munshi, V G Abstract: Forty grey fabrics (including 15 long cloth varieties) varying in count and construction were collected from different textile mills to study the relationship between constructional and strength parameters. The relationship between average count and weight/m² with each of the three strength parameters, namely tensile, tearing and bursting strengths, has been found to be highly significant. The relationship between cloth cover factor and total crimp is, however, significant with tensile and bursting strength only. Page(s): 107-108

Characteristics and Spinning Behaviour of Palm Seed Fibre

Title: Characteristics and Spinning Behaviour of Palm Seed Fibre Authors: Ghosh, S N; Paul, N Geo Abstract: Palm seed fibre was extracted from the fruit and its characteristics were studied. The fibre is characterized by high extension at break not generally found in vegetable fibres. Its appearance and properties, particularly the spiral angle, are similar to those of coir fibre. The fibre is fine and large lumens give it a low bulk density. The fibre consists of lignocellulose with a high percentage of pentosan. Spinning trials in combination with jute showed satisfactory performance of blend containing 25% palm seed fibre. Page(s): 103-106

Effect of Sampling and Testing Methods on Determination of Fibre Length in Jute Slivers and Yarns

Mon, 01 Sep 1980 00:00:00 GMT

Title: Effect of Sampling and Testing Methods on Determination of Fibre Length in Jute Slivers and Yarns Authors: Banerjee, B L Abstract: The expected frequency distributions of fibre length in jute slivers and yarns for different methods of sample preparation have been deduced analytically. For each such distribution, the expected average length of fibres obtained on the basis of number and weight of fibres has been estimated. Some test results are presented to show their extent of agreement with the values estimated analytically. The causes for discrepancies between experimental values and those expected from analytical relations are discussed. For routine testing of fibre length, the need for standardizing the methods of sampling and testing has been stressed. Page(s): 98-102

An Assessment of Diffusion Models in a Wool-Dye System

Mon, 01 Sep 1980 00:00:00 GMT

Title: An Assessment of Diffusion Models in a Wool-Dye System Authors: Gulrajani, M L; Verma, G K Abstract: An attempt has been made to understand quantitatively the mechanism of dye diffusion in a wool-acid dye system. Five different Indian wools belonging to normal white and canary coloured varieties have been studied for the purpose. Equations generally used for determining the rate of dyeing and diffusion coefficients have been tested and diffusion models assessed practically. Though Hills' equation and Peters' model are the solution of Fick's second law of diffusion, the latter seems to hold good for moderate and larger periods of dyeing as well. Page(s): 92-97
