of flax fibres subjected to several chemical treatments have been studied using
the scanning electron microscopy. It has been found that topographically flax
fibres can be improved and partial 'cottonization' is possible with
depectinizing treatments, and eventual 'cottonization' is technologically feasible
with delignification treatments.</span>

Title: Relationship between Single Fibre Strength and Behaviour of Yarns and Fabrics
Authors: Patni, P C; Bapna, D L; Pokharna, A K; Mathur, J P; Singh, V P; Arora, R K; Malhi, R S
Abstract: <span style="font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;
font-family:" calibri","sans-serif";mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-fareast-font-family:="" "times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast;mso-hansi-theme-font:="" minor-latin;mso-bidi-font-family:"times="" roman";mso-ansi-language:en-us;="" mso-fareast-language:en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">The physical
characteristics and breaking strengths of fibres of wools of eight Indian and
crossbred sheep and yarns and fabrics obtained there from have been
investigated with the objective of establishing correlations, if any, between
the characteristics of individual fibres and those of their yarns and fabrics.
It is observed that fabric strength depends primarily on yarn strength. Fibre
strength does not appear to affect fabric and yarn strengths to a significant
extent.</span>

Title: Improvements in Yarn Quality and Ringframe Performance in Fine Counts by Higher Licker-in and Cylinder Speeds in Carding
Authors: Shah, R S; Balasubramanian, N
Abstract: <span style="font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;
font-family:" calibri","sans-serif";mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-fareast-font-family:="" "times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast;mso-hansi-theme-font:="" minor-latin;mso-bidi-font-family:"times="" roman";color:black;mso-ansi-language:="" en-us;mso-fareast-language:en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">An attempt has been
made to assess the improvement in carding quality in semi-high production cards
resulting from increase in licker-in up to 800 rpm and cylinder speeds up to
300 rpm, the study being restricted to fine counts. T<span style="font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;font-family:" calibri","sans-serif";="" mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-fareast-font-family:"times="" new="" roman";="" mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast;mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin;="" mso-bidi-font-family:"times="" roman";color:#121212;mso-ansi-language:en-us;="" mso-fareast-language:en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">h<span style="font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;font-family:" calibri","sans-serif";="" mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-fareast-font-family:"times="" new="" roman";="" mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast;mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin;="" mso-bidi-font-family:"times="" roman";color:black;mso-ansi-language:en-us;="" mso-fareast-language:en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">e material was examined up
to ring spinning to assess the effect on end breakage rate also. Increase in
licker-in speed was found to improve the cleaning efficiency significantly in
all the four mixings studied<span style="font-size:11.0pt;line-height:
115%;font-family:" calibri","sans-serif";mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;="" mso-fareast-font-family:"times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast;="" mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-bidi-font-family:"times="" roman";="" color:#2f2f2f;mso-ansi-language:en-us;mso-fareast-language:en-us;mso-bidi-language:="" ar-sa"="">. <span style="font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;font-family:
" calibri","sans-serif";mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-fareast-font-family:="" "times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast;mso-hansi-theme-font:="" minor-latin;mso-bidi-font-family:"times="" roman";color:black;mso-ansi-language:="" en-us;mso-fareast-language:en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">There was no evidence
of fibre rupture, or any increase in nep generation at the higher speed. On the
other hand, there was clear evidence to show that increase in licker-in speed
helped to remove the immature fibre clusters and fuzzy fibres more effectively.
Although the physical properties of the yarn were nearly unaffected, a
significant reduction in ringframe end breakage rate could be obtained at
higher licker-in speed. Increase in cylinder speed was associated with reduced
cylinder load, but without change in transfer efficiency. There was a
consistent improvement in card cleaning efficiency with increase in speed for
all the mixings. Although yarn strength and evenness were not much affected, the
yarn imperfections showed consistent reduction at higher cylinder speed with
three out of four mixings. Ringframe end breaks also showed a significant
reduction at the higher cylinder speed with all the mixings, except 70s.</span></span></span></span></span>

Tensile Behaviour of Core-Spun Yarns

Title: Tensile Behaviour of Core-Spun Yarns
Authors: Lokanatha, K L; Srinivasalu, B G; Basavaraj, B
Abstract: <span style="font-size:11.0pt;line-height:115%;
font-family:" calibri","sans-serif";mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-fareast-font-family:="" "times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast;mso-hansi-theme-font:="" minor-latin;mso-bidi-font-family:"times="" roman";mso-ansi-language:en-us;="" mso-fareast-language:en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="">Core-spun yarns
incorporating a textured nylon multifilament core were prepared by introducing
the multifilament core along with a drafted ribbon of fibres as the latter
entered the nip of the front rollers of a ring frame. The geometrical
disposition of the core was altered by changing the twist multiplier,
pre-tension and the type of feeding of the sheath material, and the effects of
these changes on the tensile properties were evaluated. Comparison of the
stress-strain curves for the core-spun yarns with those for the continuous
filament and cotton yarns of the same counts spun under identical conditions
highlighted the behaviour of the components in a core-spun yarn undergoing
strain. The contribution of the cotton components to core-spun yarn strength
was assessed by the study of cotton fibre breakage at various levels of yarn
strain. The results from the Instron tensile tester reveal the mode of strain
distribution along the length of the yarn. The process of rupture of the
core-spun yarns has also been studied in detail. The development of the
spinning processes.</span>
