Title: Weather Windows for Offshore Operations Off Orissa, East Coast of India'
Authors: Srivastava, P S
Abstract: Wind and wave datafrom a forecasting centre and in situ data obtained from the drilling rig were analysed for determining the weather windows in the coastal areas of Orissa. The number of days in various months when the wind speed and maximum. wave height will be less than a specified value (25 knot, 2.9 m.) was computed. On the basis of this it was shown that the best period for offshore operations in the area is Dec. to Feb. while May to Aug. being unsuitable.

Title: Texture & Composition of Sediments of Hooghly Estuary & Nearshore Environment
Authors: Sasamal, S K; Sahu, B K; Panigrahy, R C
Abstract: Sediment fractions. organic carbon. total nitrogen and total phosphorus in sediments of 3 estuarine and 3 nearshore stations were studied. Higher values of organic matter were observed with finer fractions of sediments. Low values of nitrogen and high values of phosphorus were found in estuarine sediments while a reverse trend was noticed in nearshore sediments.

Monthly variations in some chemical characteristics of nearshore waters along the south Orissa coast

Title: Monthly variations in some chemical characteristics of nearshore waters along the south Orissa coast
Authors: Sasamal, S K; Sahu, B K; Panigrahy, R C
Abstract: Salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen and nutrients (NO- - N, PO - P and SiO - Si) estimated in the nearshore waters during Jan. to Dec. 1984 reveal well defined seasonal variations. Negative correlation obtained between the salinity and each of the nutrients indicates that the land drainage plays significant role in the nutrient economy of these waters.

Inhibitory effects of pesticide phosphamidon on limb regeneration in the penaeid prawn, Penaeus indicus (H. Milne Edwards)

Title: Inhibitory effects of pesticide phosphamidon on limb regeneration in the penaeid prawn, Penaeus indicus (H. Milne Edwards)
Authors: Reddy, M Srinivasulu; Rao, K V Ramana
Abstract: Initiation and progress of limb regeneration were altered in fifth periopod severed P. indicus exposed to different sublethal concentrations of phosphamidon. Inhibition of limb regeneration was dose dependent. Phosphamidon caused inhibition in regeneration and delayed the initiation of limb bud development in lower concentration (0.01, 0.02, 0.05 and 0.1 ppm) but in higher concentrations (0.2 ppm) both the processes were inhibited. Results suggested that crustaceans limb regeneration can be taken as a parameter for assessing toxic effects of environmental pollutants.
